I agree Lizard - people who have never bothered to vote in local elections will be loudly voicing their views at election time, thanks to #SaveOurTown... Hell, it's many years since I moved away from the area but I feel this weird sense of civic/club pride that Luton could be resurrected as a thriving town, after years of being run down and bad mouthed by all and sundry... I will happily tell any councillor who will listen how much I am looking forward to travelling back to the town centre and seeing the halo over a wondrous new development as we make our determined run towards the Premiership...
It's that or years more skulking away from embarrassing discussions about "crap towns" where Milton Keynes, St Albans, Bedford and the rest pour scorn on our inability to develop a new cultural life to supplant a moribund industrial past...

The comment about smiley faces was meant to indicate that those standing for re-election daren't do anything but vote in favour!

Can anybody tell me?
The group of strong objectors at the top of Cutenhoe road to the Kodadrome, remember them, have they objected to the Newlands development.?

The only way of finding out is to go through all the objections on Luton's Council's planning web site. You'd need to have names and/or addresses to know if they are the same objectors. My guess is the objectors previously didn't want a football stadium near where they lived.

Today's the day - LTST/LLSC statement
TODAY, LUTON BOROUGH COUNCIL CAN MAKE HISTORY – SAYING ‘YES’ TO PROGRESS AND REGENERATION FOR LUTON
Today is the day we’ve all been waiting for. Not only since 2020’s plans for Newlands Park and Power Court were submitted, but for decades. The day when Luton turns a corner and moves forward again into a new era of progress and pride. The day when every person on the Council’s planning committee can go down in history - as the people who said ‘Yes’ to huge inward investment that will help bring 10,000 new jobs and revenue of around £250million a year to our town.
Today is the day that the Newlands Park planning application is decided. A massive day in the history of Luton, our town - and Luton Town, too, of course.
Say ‘YES’ and we will see the town transformed, with Newlands Park and Power Court reversing years and years of stagnation. With a fabulous new gateway to the town changing perceptions of Luton and attracting new business. We will have something to be really proud of. Something we all want and need, as those record breaking 11,000 letters and emails of support so clearly expressed.
When LBC said yes to Power Court, they set the scene for history repeating itself in a wonderful way.
At the very start of the 20th century, the Town Council boldly decided to build a power station on that site, offering the cheapest electricity in England. It transformed the town, attracting the industries that saw Luton take the lead in a new era of engineering, and creating a time of plentiful wealth and jobs.
We all know that Luton has suffered with the decline of those industries, but here we are at a point where once again, the Council has the opportunity to be visionary and herald in a new era. We’re half way there with Power Court.
Now for the deciding step – approval of Newlands Park, and regeneration of the town.
Here’s the astonishing difference between that decision in the 1900’s and 2019. Whereas the building of the power station was a major investment, Newlands Park and Power Court will not cost the council, or any of us in our Luton communities, a penny.
A wonderful opportunity to make this town a proud and progressive leader again is being handed to Luton Borough Council freely, from a group of people who love this town and are totally committed to it moving onwards and upwards – which is what we’ve all been dreaming of. Those dreams can come true today.
So we say to you, ladies and gentlemen of the planning committee – please do what the people who elected you to do the best for Luton are asking for. Say ‘YES’ to Newlands Park and regeneration. It’s a win:win for everyone!!!
