I was a regular at the Marque in the early 60's...sung the odd song now and then, Dudley Moore played some great Jazz on piano, had a few wild nights with Johnny Dankworth, Tubby Hayes and American jazz musician.. Clark Terry...sometimes used to sit with Cleo Lane, a lovely lady. My manager was a guy called Dave Blackman...everyone seemed to know him !...Great memories ! Still working on my 10 for desert island ! Envious Sussex some great jazz musicians mentioned there. Cleo is still going strong and has a daughter who also sings. I believe bands like the Stones and Alexis Korners Blues Incorporated would play at the breaks between the jazz sets. The Hundred Club was also a jazz venue never went there myself, but saw Chris Farlow and Georgie Fame at the Flamingo Club. A folk venue I visited was at a basement in Greek Street Soho called Les Cousins.

I think I went with Dave a few times, it was an all nighter club and I remember coming out into a Sunday London morning and catching the first tube back to St Pancras. Before T Rex became a rock band saw them and Long John Baldrey there. One night Cat Stevens did a short set there his father owned a Greek restaurant next door.

A couple that came in 'the can't put down' category were Silence of the Lambs and HMS Ulysses. I'm sad to say that I haven't read any fiction in years. Talking of 1984, did you ever see this advert. I was involved with the launch of this product in Europe.

Here's some of my collection, in no particular order. Gong; Buddy Rich, Jimi Hendrix, Borodin, Mussorgksy, Herbie Hancock, Léo Delibes, Magma, Malouma Mint Meidah, Miles Davies, Henry Cow, Hadouk Trio/Quartet, George Crumb, Esperanza Spalding, David Suttle, (well ...) Guapo, Art Blakey, Dave Brubeck, Dave Matthews Band, Cardiacs, Knifeworld, ELP, Karl Heinz Stockhausen, Mahavishnu Orchestra, Mary Lou Williams, Nick Drake, Carl Orff, PFM, Prkofiev, Puccini, Pere Ubu, Roslyn Steer, Soft Machine, Steve Reich, Steve Hillage, Tan Dun, Tchaikovsky, The Ayoub Sisters, Vivaldi, Stravinsky, Monsoon Bassoon, Kingdom Come ... Bored now. Lucky it's a quick reply. Nice to see Cardiacs in there, hugely under-appreciated in my opinion. And Gong at Dunstable Civic was one of my favourite gigs ever.

I didn't see the advert, at least not consciously. I'm a bit oblivious to advertising.

I've seen Gong a few times, most recently November 2019 at Aylesbury. Kavus Torabi is the "leader" now, with Daevid Allen's blessing before he passed away (well, obviously) he is also a member of Cardiacs hence my interest, and yes, very under estimated. KT is a member of Guapo too.

I saw Cliff and the Shadows live, and PJ Proby, both at the Savoy cinema in Luton, The Kinks at Bristol University and a female singer whose name I can't remember at the LSE. I've alo been to the Royal Albert Hall once and apart from performances by Jess over the years and her dad's band that is the absolute sum total of my music going life.

Was that the night PJProby split his trousers? I saw the Beatles at the Odeon Bury.Park and the Stones at the Ritz or maybe the Savoy. Didn't see any classical stuff at the Albert Hall but saw Peter Greens Fleetwood Mac there. Plus every year the American Blues Festival was held at the A. Hall on one occasion after the show saw Ginger Baker getting into his Jensen sports car.
