Welcome to a world of music of every genre without exception, let`s hear what you are listening to. Been watching Sky Arts free on Virgin, watched Pink Floyds "Gentle sound of Thunder concert " recently excellent. I'm a Chicago Blues fan and have been listening to some Elmore James tracks. "It Hurts Me Too" one of my favourites.

Just listened to "Sorrow" and "On the turning away" both very much about some of the sad aspects and attitude of our world today. Gilmour`s guitar riffs are brilliant as he is of course and always appears to actually enjoy playing live concerts. One of the few things Crumps and I disagree on is whether he can be called a great guitar player, I think he is. No shame for being wrong on this occasion Crumps

So what from the "limited amount of truly great music and lyrics" are you listening to? mostly classical music, the odd score of film music, the odd song from Sinatra, Monro, Elvis, Carpenters, some country music, Three Tenors, patriotic/military music, some musicals, Bassey, Queen. that's for starters. Generally speaking I thought the Stones and Beatles were crap and most rock music just noise. Now what would be interesting would be to post your 10 for 'Desert Island Discs'.

It’s only Rock & Roll, but I like it, like it, yes I do ! When Luton played Dartford I arrived by train at the station where Mick and Keef met sometime in early 60's, and then went on to form the Stones. Apparently there's a plaque but I couldn't find it!!

If most rock music is just noise how do you explain liking Elvis the father of Rock and Roll, and then you add Queen puzzling? 🎸

Disagree, there's loads of good music for many many tastes, moods, feelings, emotions, special moments, cognitively stimulating, odd time signatures out there man.

I was and I am still into 'Modern Jazz' as in the 50's & 60's..Dizzy Gillespie, Charley Parker, Miles Davies, M.J.Q., Dave Brubeck, Buddy Rich, Wes Montgomery etc.etc. Big Band Swing and Jazz...Count Basie and Duke Ellington. I do like some classical music, especially the patriotic rousing stuff ! My favourite Singers...Sinatra, Bennett, Bobby Darin,Elvis, Joe Longthorne, Josh Grobin, Michael Buble, Rod Stewart, Robbie Williams, Judy Garland, Doris Day, Barbra Streisand, Shirley Bassey, Whitney Houston, Jane McDonald. Favourite Groups...ABBA, The Carpenters, Queen, Music from the shows !...South Pacific, West Side Story etc...right down to Cats, Les Miserables etc. What I hate is the fact that about 75% of the " New Brigade" of singers don't seem to care if you can't hear the words to the lyrics !!
As for my 10 Desert Island Discs...that will require some thought...I'll post that at a later stage !!

If most rock music is just noise how do you explain liking Elvis the father of Rock and Roll, and then you add Queen puzzling? 🎸 Can't agree he was the 'father' of rock. Think that probably goes to Bill Haley or some might say Fats Domino with 'Blueberry Hill'. Little Richard and Chuck Berry were also around the time Elvis appeared. And talking of Elvis, think it's fair to say that the majority of his hits were hardly rock, rock ballads surely. Getting back to the '10' I would include 'American Trilogy', 'Blueberry Hill', 'Grand Coulee Dam' as it was the first record I bought so memories of 'you've never had it so good' years, 'Barcelona', Freddie Mercury and Montserrat Caballé, Bohemian Rhapsody because it was unusual, Hallelujah Chorus, Dire Straits 'Telegraph Road', Planet Suite (Mars), Vaughan Williams Sea Symphony, I Had a Dream, Ruthie Henshall and my bonus selection 'Don't Cry for me Argentina' possibly by Madonna. That really was bloody difficult and would probably change as one's mind wanders.
