The government made, and is still making, mistakes. Any government would. We are in a situation, whilst predictable in general terms --pandemics happen-- not in specific terms --the effect, who is most affected etc. etc. To criticise the government and to ask challenging questions is not being a 'lefty' it's being a curious human being trying to understand the truth. We all know the government's 'target' of covid 'testing' was reached last week --the minister told us. What he failed to tell us was that the figure included home testing kits put in the post i.e. not received and certainly not returned and tested. When those kits are returned and tested will they be counted again? Almost certainly. But does the target matter? Of course not. What matters is whatis done with the data testing produces to help us minimise a wave 2 and a wave 3. But I for one would prefer to know the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth and being told the truth would raise the value of the politician telling the truth in my eyes.

You can just imagine the scene in the Conservative Central office last Thursday after someone came up with the wheeze of counting testing kits posted out as part of the total, in order to meet Hancock's target.
Never have so many testing kits been stuffed into envelopes so fast, and rushed down the Post Office.
Sadly, that left us short of kits to send out in the days that followed; can only hope they were mailed out to people who actually needed them.
Let's now hope that Johnson doesn't buckle under pressure from big business to re-open Britain too soon. But I'm sure he can keep big business happy now he's found the magic money tree.

Oh dear Buzz, where did you get your information from. Please stick to the facts, not imagination.

Apologies, but the fact is that the sensible way of counting the number of tests completed is by, well, counting the number of tests completed. That is what any sensible person would agree with. The late decision to change the criterion does seem a bit odd. My post was tongue in cheek, but no stranger flight of fancy than anything someone might see on Guido Fawkes. The facts : I think you'll find the great British public decided they didn't like facts and evidence and experts. If they did, we wouldn't be in the mess we're in.

This cabinet’s credentials consisted solely of being able to utter the sacred Get Brexit Done mantra, something they so proficiency displayed at their first meeting. The great offices of Foreign and Home Secretary were awarded to the authors of ‘Britannia Unchained’ which for the uninitiated is a manifesto of deregulation and lower taxation so the rich can get richer and workers lose employment rights. With the possible exception of Sunak, they are self evidently totally out of their depth and are now wholly dependent on - our excellent civil service, which they rubbished and demonised during the referendum, and have picked fights with since - the NHS, which they undermined with pay and funding erosion (cheering when they rejected a 1% pay for nurses in 2017) and creeping privatisation - a ravaged social care service which successive governments have ignored. May’s sensible solution for this in her 2017 manifesto saw her turned by her fellow Tories. - a decimated local authority provision, particularly environmental officers, who would have been ideally placed to deliver effective local testing and contact tracing - scientists and experts ‘who we’ve had enough of’ to quote Michael Gove Yes, some mess indeed

Grow up Liz, you starting to sound like my Norfolk neighbour. 😀 We seem to be turning this message board into a pseudo 'Outlaws', just entering into the spirit of things Steve. Yes bring back , then all the Champagne London centric socialists would really get some abuse . Incidentally what's happened to piggy, seems to have disappeared off the face of the Earth?

Here we go...little insults creeping in, and that's the start !...If it was up to me...Politics and Religion would be NO GO areas on a Football Site ! Piggy is alive and well on the 2 main Facebook Luton Town football sites...who both number several thousand members...Plenty of fishing, banter, humour, some great video content, all in all excellent fun ! Since the curtailment of the Bobberman Leagues, you can count the number of contributors on here, on both hands !...What ever your opinion on Brexit or the Government, or indeed... The President of the United States of America, you can guarantee to upset approximately 50 % of the other contributors ! Last time I looked... was arguing with himself on Stevo's old site...And I speak from bitter experience with Stevo !!

I agree Tony politics and religion is a no no. The only place we can change things is in the ballot box and that ain't going to happen any time soon! I don't like to see my friends sniping at each other so I'm not going to play! We are where we are and no amount of arguing is going to change that.Just look forwards.

You're right Flat, I said the other day that I wouldn't post on the political thread and then did, silly me! Covid can't be separated from political comment so won't be posting on the Covid 19 thread as well, except maybe the occasional positive comment.

Does not the title of the thread seem to be a slight give-away regarding the content of the thread!
One of the main reasons for the two threads, Covid & Politics, was to stop the shoutbox becoming clogged up with these two subjects: seems to have worked & anybody not wishing to talk about either politics or Covid, simply passes on the thread.
