if i was managing a betting company i'd keep throwing up names of who will be luton's new manager just to get people betting. i doubt 2020 will be influenced by the odds at all. hole in one Gale, that's what's called making a market.

What would most people prefer when we eventually appoint a new manager? A young untried but promising obviously cheaper or a 'name' experienced man (or woman). Or perhaps a Welsh ex manager ( a definite No from me ).

Bernard, I guess it really depends which division we are playing in. With our pre-CV19 resources (and provided they're still there when football reappears) we SHOULD be competitive in L1 even with a relatively/totally untried league manager. There is no way we could expect that success if we are still in the Championship. I believe, whatever happens to sort this season out, we will start the next season below the Championship. The EFL seem determined to finish the league (even if it's decided by rock-paper-scissors) and I think we are just too many points adrift to have a realistic chance of survival, especially as we don't now have a management team in place. If we do get relegated then I wonder whether next season will be in L1 or a regionalised L1/L2/NL combo. There may yet be a number of clubs who won't survive that long. Interesting that the larger and (purely coincidentally) more successful L1 teams this season want the season to be played out. If it costs £4m for the Premier League to be health checked, where are the L1 clubs going to get that sort of finance to carry out similar checks? What Sunderland, Pompey, Oxford, Ipswich, Posh and Fleetwood want and can afford differs greatly to a lot of the other clubs in that division. www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/52670556

Agree Proud that it depends on which division we are in but I hope we don't get relegated to a geographical division one as this will bring in some more agricultural teams from league two or national league. Mind you I suppose any football should be a bonus.

anyone done any kind of Whole EFL league table based on "most likely to survive financially" -? so the bottom half of such a table would have all the clubs who are in debt with negative revenue, with rankings according to scale and other structural problems - and Bury would have been bottom of it last season. I'd say we are in the top half - and whatever manager we end up with, the key factors are all to do with what 2020 have achieved, key decisions they have made - (and not Nathan Jones or John Still, no matter how much they may deserve team management credit.)

1/20 nathan jones now i think it’s a case of getting used to the probability, accepting it, and moving forward supporting the team.

I hope it's not NJ and that the odds are just the bookies drumming up business. You know what they say, never go back.

Will probably initially be cheap but with a short contract. 50:50 chance of success he was good with us and with Stoke . . . No Stacey and Justin but next season he might have with Galloway and Kisco and I wouldn't discard the possibility of him building another entertaining promotion team assuming we go down. So at least a chance of seeing some entertaining football.

NJ provided us with THE best football to watch for years - always looked forward to going to matches under his tenure.
But got to say this would be VERY brave appointment ... sorry, re-appointment. I'll always back my club and believe 2020 are THE best owners we (or any other club) are likely to ever find but it's going to be extremely difficult giving 100% support to the manager when things start to go awry.
The manner of his departure, his choice of attire for collecting the Manager of the Month award, his comments in various interviews (especially claiming to be the SOLE reason JJ was so good when he preferred Potts every single time until injury forced JJ's selection), the various bitter comments by more than one board member about NJ's departure, the deceitful way in which his fiancee booked Stoke's owners into a beach hut, supposedly before they spoke to him for the first time after Sheffield Wednesday FA Cup game (despite being seen at their training ground before the Wednesday game).
The whole scenario left me with such a bitter taste and, as my club clearly has financial issues ATM, I am struggling to see why he wouldn't simply **** off again when the hint of a better salary comes along at a larger club. Sunderland were supposedly interested in him at one point and a club of that stature would obviously be a massive draw compared to operating on a small budget, presumably on a relatively small salary and (to a large extent) an unknown relationship with the fans given that my anger against his return certainly wouldn't be a lone opinion. No fans at the ground will help his cause (and rehab) but once we're allowed to attend then I do wonder whether the atmosphere would possibly give an advantage to the opposition.
But it's MY club and I'll be there supporting the players whenever I can ... during and after his tenure ends for the second time.
As Clappers says, if he keeps us up then he'll be a hero ... better not re-appoint Paul hart in that case.
PS Can the maintenance guy not remove the "Jones" plaque from the manager's door? If not, as NJ's (second) successor I'd go for Indiana Jones, Grace Jones, Griff Rhys Jones, Aled Jones (but not necessarily in that order).
