Just had a chat with my brother in Oz he says they can gather in groups of five people, and tonight he's going to a friend's house with his wife to have a birthday dinner. Australia it seems has coped very well with the virus, it's isolation and low population has helped and very few flights in or out. The distance between Melbourne and Perth is about the same as London's distance to Moscow. I'll leave Tassie and Mel to correct me on that one! Nothing to do with the Amber Nector though Mick!😀

My understanding is that taxable income from the increased and continued production of "Fosters" at the Melbourne canning and distribution centre has helped the Australian economy overcome some of their national deficit.

Gentlemen, and I use that description with reverence, London to Moscow distance is correct ( being pedantic Fremantle, my old Oz home and Malua Bay my current abode are a similar distance apart) my thoughts on fosters are well known. Yes groups of ten can now gather. As far as our code starting again here, who knows ? A major sponsor will with draw soon and finding a replacement won’t be easy. COYH

A quote from BBC news today "Qatar has made the wearing of face masks compulsory, with anyone defying the order facing a jail term of up to three years or a fine of up to $55,000 (£45,000) for those who repeatedly fail to cover-up".
IMO in the UK approach to this virus, and I am not just talking face masks, we need to move from "suggest", "recommend" and soft request to "you are instructed to" & "failure will mean a fine of £xxx".

Making the wearing of masks compulsory will certainly hammer a nail into the coffin of playing football, let alone attending it. Unfortunately, that's ditto for all team sports at all levels.
If you are a member of or running a club/association, finding an insurance company to provide cover for Covid-19 would be akin to finding the Queen in my garden shed with a Rizla hanging from the corner of her mouth whilst cultivating marijuana and cannabis plants and listening to Snoop Dog on her Dre Beats headphones. Clubs/associations will be hung out to dry by any claims so the playing of team sports will, IMO, never be the same.
The only thing that will possibly change that viewpoint is the discovery/development of a vaccine. Otherwise, sport, in general, is ****ed. Okay there may be some individual sports that are possible without risking others around you but they ain't particularly attractive to TV companies.
Near Bedford, there are currently two local football clubs having major works done - presumably with National Lottery funding. I cannot see that they will be able to utilise those facilities for a long time to come - neither the pitches nor the clubhouses.
Keep safe.

What in heaven's name is "chair of global public health at the University of Edinburgh"? Another 'expert' dug up by the 'Guardian' and paid for filling up 12 column inches.

Interesting read BMS the elimination of Cov. 19 by test/track sounds feasible as NZ and Oz have proved. Plus both those countries and other successful ones had a very hash lockdown and closing of borders very early on. Australia apparently would have had better figures if a cruise ship hadn't allowed all it's passengers to disembark without being tested and quarantined. Small mistakes can have huge consequences.

Thanks for the constructive response Liz. It was a serious failing on my part to share something that was -as unpolitical as possible - written by someone who is held in high regard in her field - might be of use to those concerned about what lies ahead.
