Back to Covid...
Germany’s plans to restart competitive football next Saturday suffered an early setback after the entire Dynamo Dresden team were placed in a two-week quarantine following two positive coronavirus tests a the players.
The Bundesliga 2 club announced on their website that tests taken on Friday had revealed two new positive cases and local health authorities had ordered the team into quarantine. Dresden were scheduled to play Hannover 96 next Sunday in their first game back following the stoppage caused by the coronavirus outbreak.
“After an intensive analysis of the situation, the health authority in Dresden … decided on Saturday that the entire second division squad, including the coaching and support team, must now go into a 14-day quarantine at home,” the club said. “Due to the quarantine measures, [we] will not be able to travel to Lower Saxony for the away game on matchday 26 as planned.”.

I don't think a restart is possible, too many complications sadly. Bill Shanklys saying "football is more important than life and death" doesn't ring true in 2020.

Could well be that Shankly's statement will be changed to 'football is a matter of life and death'....

One of my sons lives in a village 20 miles from Porto in Portugal, with his partner and her parents. His partner works in a private hospital with a care facility and carries out caring and general nursing duties. They have full PPE protection. On Friday 18th. April she began vomiting and lost her sense of taste. She was tested positive on Tuesday 21st. April and self isolated. By the 24th. April her health improved and she felt better by the 27th. She contacted the hospital and asked for a test with a view to returning to work. They suggested that she self isolated and rested for another week to be absolutely sure, she was retested on Tuesday 5th. May and to her amazement tested positive. She is now continuing to self isolate and will be retested on Wednesday 13th.May, she feels very well and somewhat frustrated. This does bring into question the policy of self isolating for a week and being considered as recovered if you feel well.

Biscot, good to read that she is feeling better after her initial diagnosis. In line with her situation, I recently read an article where a Paul Dybala (Juventus) still tested positive 28 days after his original positive test was identified. Dybala has now recovered after 40+ days. www.blackwhitereadallover.com/2020/5/6/21249634/official-paulo-dybala-has-recovered-from-covid-19-juventus-2020-serie-a-team-news-coronavirusThat, together with your son's partner's situation suggests that some people will have the virus in their system long beyond the time they feel well. Given such scenarios, it does make you wonder, yet again, about the sense (or insensibility) of contact sports being resurrected without better or definitive data. Whilst I almost 'expect' that young, strong, fit and healthy professional sportsmen should have a greater ability to fight coronavirus, there are exceptions and this was the article that really registered with me as to how much of a ba5tard it really is: metro.co.uk/2020/04/01/pepe-reina-ran-oxygen-suffering-coronavirus-12490614/When you think back to the shock that followed Bolton's Fabrice Muamba's heart attack at Spurs and that he would have died without a heart surgeon being in the crowd, are the Premier League officials now stating that a player's life is worth less now than in 2012? www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/17460781The image of the sport and future of many clubs (not just the Premier League clubs) is in the hands of the Premier League officials and I'm not sure they can be trusted to see beyond the £ signs in the broadcasters' eyes. Biscot's explanation of his son's partner's situation merely rams home that it may be a bit too soon to return to competitive sport. That noted, my son just informed me that this UFC event took place last night: www.theguardian.com/sport/2020/may/10/justin-gaethje-shocks-tony-ferguson-with-ko-at-controversial-ufc-249Keep safe.

Two separate comments. The first is that the 14 days quarantine isn't about getting over it, it's about showing symptoms if you've been exposed to it. The virus itself, once you get it, can last weeks but the medical consensus is that if you are exposed to it you'll show the symptoms within 14 days. the problem, of course, is that we now know you can have it without any symptoms so you'd need to be tested at the end of the 14 days as well.
The second is that I was listening to an interesting chap --a lawyer-- on the radio this am. His view is the FA need to take the lead over the future of the premiership and the football league because of the interrelationship between the two. He also said one option might be to give relegated clubs a bigger parachute than normal as compensation for not playing at home for example --as if the parachute payments weren't already a cause of the haves and have nots in the Championship! He also said if there wasn't full agreement then there was sure to be legal action from the clubs who didn't get their own way. As an aside I was also listening to women's hour last week and apparently the developed countries with the fewest cases of covid are all run by women. The hypothesis put forward was that the female leaders focussed on the health of their populations and the male leaders on the economy. If this is true then football could do with more women leaders to focus on the health and welfare of players, staff and fans.
