Which reminds me of the spelling of Whiskey, or the Scottish spelling of Whisky. Why the difference in spelling ? To save money on printing costs Jimmy ! Thank you and good night from down under, COYH.

The Far Eastern countries like South Korea and China were ahead of the PPE game, they had experience of other pandemics, Bird Flu, Sars etc so had already set up emergency plans and stocks of masks, gowns, gloves etc. I can't buy a mask for love or money or hand sanitizer, wrapping a scarf round my head when I visit Lidl nowadays! www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2380057.m570.l1313.TR12.TRC2.A0.H0.Xmedical+face+mask.TRS0&_nkw=medical+face+mask&_sacat=0www.healthline.com/health/how-to-make-hand-sanitizerI purchased masks weeks ago from ebay which were delivered in days. Sanitizer is easy: 1/3 surgical spirit, 2/3 aloe vera, mix with a whisk, job done. Surgical spirit from boots approx Ā£4, aloe vera from any supermarket, wilkos etc. Enough to last for years. Be careful with delivery dates. When my wife could not get household gloves in the supermarket 6 weeks ago I ordered a box of 100 from amazon. Turned out they are coming from china. Still waiting , latest delivery date 26th May. Took the money within days.

I feel that the Andrew Marr show this morning was probably, in the most part, one of the most sensible & informative collection of views & questions I have seen on Covid for some time. Itās pretty clear that a lot more thought has to go into how we will apply social distancing when the lockdown eases and people start to use public transport. You can catch the show on BBC iPlayer: www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m000hyq2/the-andrew-marr-show-03052020

COVID testing target met apparently. That should upset a few scribes. Sunday May 3rd Cabinet Office Minister Michael Gove reveals 76,496 coronavirus tests were carried out in the 24 hours to 9am this morning, which is substantially below the 100,000 target it had set. He said the government has pledged an additional Ā£1.6 billion to councils across England to support their āessential frontline servicesā including adult social care.

Um, weekend, possibly, not everyone works weekends. Think it was around 120k the previous day and so a fair comparison will be tomorrow and onwards. 100,000 was an aspiration and even the most sceptical journalists gave a grudging well done.

I mentioned the same on Outlaws this afternoon. The general consensus was that it was the weekend and the uptake would be low. If so Mondays figures should be higher, let's hope so.

Today a trial has begun on the Isle of Wight, it's for an app that will alert people by smart phone if they've come into contact with a Covid-19 carrier. If successful it will be rolled out over the country. I believe other countries are already using the system.

If successful it will be rolled out over the country. I believe other countries are already using the system. and for us old uns they begin experiments with both semaphore and carrier pigeons. The same thing crossed my mind too. Back in 1665 in the village of Eyam Derbyshire a bale of cotton arrived from London. The bale was contaminated with bubonic plague which had killed thousands in London. The villagers decided to self isolate and quarantine, 260 of them died, but their heroic efforts stopped the plague spreading to other villages and towns. My wife and I visited the village last year and saw the graveyard where some of the dead had been buried, things don't change! One women Mrs Handcock (quite by chance!) buried her husband and six children on her own to prevent contamination.

This thread has been temporarily locked as itās getting a touch overly political. If posters want to air political views then we do have a separate thread dedicated to politics.
We will open this thread up again tomorrow & whilst one appreciates itās sometimes easy to stray, can we keep the thread centred on any non-political aspects of Covid.
Thanks in advance for your cooperation.
Wimbo.
Note: the recent more political posts have been moved to the politics thread.
