I'm in total agreement with HatterSussex's solution. Properly rewards the most successful. Nobody unfairly punished. Make the FA Cup a mid-week competition and there's the free Saturdays for the Prem's extra games the following season.
Re the over-70s policy. If all the young and middle-aged are allowed out they'll all get the virus. They'll all survive it and become immune to future waves. The only group without immunity will be us geriatrics and we'll be even older by the time of the second wave next winter. A soft target that the virus will have to concentrate on. We'll all be goners solving the ageing population problem and pensions crisis at one fell swoop. Government policy?
Re testing for the virus. Is everybody mad or is it just me? Getting tested will tell you whether you have the virus or not. If you're found innocent what are you going to do tomorrow? Get tested every day?

Medically speaking drinking water has no effect on viruses although it is good for you in other ways (and wine/beer don't count as coloured water!) As to the Government's preparedness or otherwise I will give Boris his due (and I never thought I'd write that) he is trying to do what the scientists advise. Unfortunately with any new disease the science has to learn as it goes along and computer modelling based on previous epidemics can only go so far. For two main reasons they want to slow the spread of coronavirus, hence the current actions. We have to remember that about 37% of our population is either over 65 or under 15 and not all the rest will be able to work (in prison, ill, caring responsibilities etc) so government has to manage health care, food production and distribution, production of essential equipment etc with only about 60% of the population available to do these tasks --any many of them will get ill or have to take time off work to care for others, for example children if schools close. Government has been planning since January (at least Local Government has so I assume their actions were triggered by central government) and there are no right solutions just best guess based on available data.

Sensible stuff Rutland.
Returning to footie, I think we’re all starting to work out that there won’t be a ‘next season’ until 21/22 at the earliest.
It’s all about suppressing this pandemic both nationally and globally, and giving science and health authorities a chance to plan for each next stage.
Spare a thought for the millions of poorer folk in countries where there is already war and famine and little health infrastructure.

Not quite right about the water Gale. If you have the virus, advice is to drink water every 15 minutes to wash virus into the gut where it will be dealt with by the acids etc. Leaving the virus in the throat could end up in the lungs which is not good for some people.

Remember, too, the poorer in our community who can't afford to stockpile and are finding empty shelves at the end of the once a week bus ride to the supermarket or those reliant on foodbanks as donations to these are declining.
