Spot on Liz ! My bike had a sidecar frame attached, the only way I could get insurance. Secured a wooden pallet, plus a bag of cement (which solidified quickly) for stability. that has taken me back a bit Martyn, if I had kept the A10 much longer I probably wouldn't be here now. Same with cars. When I sold my first house I used some of the money to buy a Vauxhall 2.3 droop snoot Firenza, which in its day was a bit of a rocket. Then latter in life with a promotion my choice of a company car was a 3 litre Vauxhall Carlton which was frightening. Fortunately they swapped it for a 230 Merc after a few months as the wife wouldn't go anywhere near it. Love it.

I'm not sure if I'd been on a train beforehand, but my first solo train journey was in the mid/late 50s. I rode my bike to Leagrave station, propped the bike against the wall, and bought a return ticket to Luton for 5d. Went to town, walked round a bit, came back, retrieved my bike and went home. A typical trainspotter tail Mags, if you did the same these days your bike would have gone missing.

Ha! About thirty or so years later that is just what happened to my elder lad. He used to cycle to the station and get the train to school in Bedford. He had three bikes stolen one after the other, despite all of them being locked. The insurance company weren't happy. ๐

Following our phone call yesterday Lake I looked into the NNR 2-10-0 loco. It had the number 90775 and never actually ran on British rails but was sent to Greece in 1944 to help with the repatriation of that country. It returned to England in the 80's and was purchased by the NNR In early 2000s. It's been named as the "Royal Norfolk Regiment" . More info on Google under "Preserved British Steam Locomotives".

Thanks Steve, good information. The numbering makes sense as the last of the BR class of 20 was 90774 all shedded in Scotland except 90763 which was shedded at Carlisle.

This is my painting of A4 Class " Empire of India "...undergoing a trial paint job and at the time of the newly formed B.R... being tried on new routes. It had been rushed into service and the paint job was incomplete, it is without the new B.R. Logo on the tender and minus it's new B.R. number...Not sure what station it is about to leave from !
