The 25 Squad At 21/22 Season End: Thoughts & Speculation
This is the 25 man squad we finished this brilliant season with; many heroes indeed. The squad excludes any qualifying young players such as Thorpe.
1. James Shea: Injury so probably not in squad of 25 for ist half of 22/23 season 2. James Bree 3. Dan Potts 4. Kal Naismith 5. Sonny Bradley 6. Glen Rea: Injury so probably not in squad of 25 for ist half of 22/23 season 7. Harry Cornick 8. Luke Berry 9. Danny Hylton: 11. Elijah Adebayo 12. Robert Snodgrass 14. Carlos Mendes Gomes 15. Tom Lockyer 16. Reece Burke 17. Pelly-Ruddock Mpanzu 18. Jordan Clark 19. Dion Pereira 21. Harry Isted 22. Allan Campbell 23. Henri Lansbury 24. Fred Onyedinma 26. Admiral Muskwe 29. Amari Bell 32. Gabriel Osho 35. Cameron Jerome
Overall, the squad is a good one and with the long term injuries to both Shea & Rea, I guess they would not be offered a squad number until January 2023 window. So, as a minimum NJ has two places to play with one or maybe even two will be taken by goalkeepers.
I guess we have some players who will be out of contract but the length of the contracts and therefore potential leavers, is only known by the club. Maybe one or two of those under contract will be sought after by other clubs: thinking the likes of Adebayo & Campbell.
Then we have a few who won’t be offered contracts as we release further space within the squad and as Nathan said after the Huddersfield PO game, the process is already underway.
Thoughts?

Danny Boy's been a great player for us over the years but maybe he's played his last game for us. A move down the Divisions would be a good move for him to get regular first team matches. I've liked Potts since he's been here but maybe another one where a move would further his career. I hope Adebayo and Campbell stay both key players this season and would be hard to replace. Not sure about Snodgrass and Jerome both experienced players. Pelly may at last decide on a move after his service to the club?

I agree Steve, Danny Boy has been a great player for us in our rise through the leagues yet injuries and age have caught up with him making it very difficult for him to perform at a decent championship level.

Danny Boy wants to stay with us and is hoping to be taken on as a coach!

No disrespect to all concerned but I wouldn’t be too disappointed if the following were not in next season’s 25 man squad.
Dan Potts Glen Rea Danny Hylton Dion Pereira Henry Lansbury Admiral Muskwe Cameron Jerome
Plus of course Elliot Lee
Can’t make my mind up about Snodgrass, mainly because of his age… Also on the fence regarding Pelly and Lockyer, both of whom were inconsistent in 21/22.
I do feel the squad needs rebalancing. So much of our attacking play in the second half of the season in particular came down our right.

I`m very much in the same camp as you Buzz with the exception of Pereira and Snodgrass who I hope stay.

I`m less than enthusiastic with that particularly Danny boy being retained.

A rather strange decision I think.

Pleasantly surprised that Kioso had a years option, rightly exercised by the club - thought he'd be franchise-bound on a free. Glad Isted and Berry are with us another season. Fair play to Jerome and Hylton for earning contracts/talks, but do we really need them both?
Only says Rea and Pereira are back at club, no mention of them being OOC or on the transfer list, so I'm assuming they're staying. I thought the contracts of Bree and Cornick were up, but they don't appear here - be nice if they're staying put.

Good to read all the comments & thoughts. In my opinion Danny Hylton was great in the last few months coming on in the second half, he can hold his head high. Let’s be honest he’s not been worth a contact for a long time. League one season he missed a large chuck & his mobility is no where near what it needs to be. Jerome has been good value & will be worth another punt. My thoughts are we went for it last season . Mendes Gomes & Thorpe have not been developed at all & it may cost us i fear unless we sign some ready made fast 22-24 year olds.

You all seem to have missed Josh Neufville who according to reports is frightening for defenders. Perhaps Nathan will break a habit of a lifetime and give youth a chance.

It seems like the club have acted in accordance with their words. For a long time the starting eleven has not resembled a first team, but a random selection of whoever’s fit. The entire squad has carried the club through this season, particularly the latter part of it and it is fitting that the entire squad should be rewarded, should they individually wish it. I’m specially pleased that Danny has not been thrown on the scrap heap. As others have mentioned, several are aging and several youngsters are knocking on the door. That’s the way to do it.

Pretty much spot on Alan.

Might be rubbish, might be true. Callum Wright linked with a loan to us from Leicester.
