Thanks for that Lake but click bait and on a level with 'Vital Football' and 'The 72'. Yes but these are contract, OOC, Dave and I would reckon they are mostly right with these. Anyway, a bit of fun to speculate about whilst NJ & MH plan the summer recruitment.

Anyway, a bit of fun to speculate about whilst NJ & MH plan the summer recruitment. Guarantee that it won't be any that have 7 numbers quoted It's not a very well researched list as there seems no knowledge or interest in some clubs, ie Luton and we know several of ours are OOC. Yes fun to speculate, there's a thread on Outlaws along a similar line so I'll go for Greaves, Law and Gascoigne with Pele as a standby.

Our players are there, including Pelly who has a possible extra year with us --not sure how these things work. There is more than one page of them. Troy Deeney is there --now there's a player I wouldn't want despite his goalscoring-- potentially too disruptive in the dressing room and too expensive.

Bah, don't let the facts get in the way of a bit of cynicism. However the values placed on some of them Danny Boy a cool quarter of a million and Berry at £600k. Can't see leagues 1 and 2 forking out anywhere near.

You made me smile, Dave. Incidently, I can't see anyone in any league shelling out quarter of a million for Danny

I think this is a very good post and certainly this summer transfer market is going to be very important for Luton. The values quoted are not particularly important as the players are OOC, however it gives an indication as to the differing wages players will be seeking. With our limited wage budget bill this presents a difficulty in recruiting established players of proven Championship ability. Over the past two seasons i think we have recruited in excess of ten players (not sure of exact numbers), but interestingly only Sluga, Lockyer, Adebayo and just recently Clark can be counted as starters in our strongest X1. Tunnicliffe has suddenly started to spark into life as his contract is up for renewal ( old soldier syndrome?). Not sure about Naismith but he looks useful and certainly adds versatility to the squad.
We have more points this year (around 12) and the defence has tighened up, however around 8 of these can be attributed to Sluga improving and cutting out the simple errors. In fact Sluga is making top class saves in virtually each match, so much so that sometimes they are not noticed or fully appreciated. The midfield has improved but mainly because of KDH who is on loan to us. The forward line has not performed as well this season, although recently has improved with the addition of Adebayo. Cornick has not scored and Collins despite his undoubted effort has been at the best inconsistent.
In order to progress I think that we will need to strengthen in the following positions, Centre Back (ideally with a left foot), Left Back, Defensive midfield, Creative midfield, Striker(s). Iam assuming that the Right Back position will be strengthened by either Kioso, Ohso or possibly Clark (if we play with a back 3). Also hopefully Bree will rediscover his form.
It is unlikely that we will be able to recruit 5 new "starters" and indeed too many could disrupt the side, therefore it is likely to be a balancing act. I guess we will look at a blend of established and potential promising players when recruiting. To overcome the restraints of the wage budget it is inevitable that we will need to release some of the higher earners who perhaps are just past their best or are not seen as being able to improve. The problem is that if you do not improve you usually go backwards as opposed to standing still.
Whether we recruit from the list of OOC players shown remains to be seen, but I think we will be definitely releasing some. I would aim to retain Pelly on an improved contract, Pearson and Potts (probably both as squad players). The others would depend upon new arrivals. Personally I think we need to attract at least two established players and to balance the budget I would look to use some of the younger players as squad players e.g. Beckwith, whom I assume are on a lower wage others.
What ever happens it will certainly be interesting and shows the difficulty faced by the management.

Next season should see Adebayo improve and hopefully Kioso should be a shoe in. Ohso is a regular for Rochdale (they had a good win yesterday) but it's a bit of a leap from League 2 to the Championship but he does look an athletic defender. Will Sluga still be here or will there be a need to cash in and perhaps the talented Harry Isted will get his chance? There really should be candidates from a the youngsters. I'm not too familiar with them but of what I've seen I'm hoping that Josh Neufville comes good and there are several listed in the first team squad.
Perhaps the biggest challenge is replacing the player who makes us tick, KDH, possibly impossible unless a Premiership team see Luton as an ideal schooling ground. We struck very lucky with Leicester, not so with Chelsea.
In the old days teams outside of Division 1 signed top players on their way down and got a season or two out of them, happens infrequently now, it's a money thing. So kids, lower league talented young ones and the odd journeyman are the only options.
