I have been a Sky customer for 's years and for most of that time have had the sports channels. A couple of years ago I realised that I was getting bored with wall to wall football and was a Luton fan rather than a football fan and therefore cancelled the sports. I kept the entertainment and documentary channels which was on a time limited deal of around £19 monthly. Recently noticed that the direct debit had shot up to approx £30 and analysing that most of what I was watching was available on freesat decided to boot Sky into touch.
My TV has both a freeview and freesat tuners built in but if one wanted to record or rewind or pause a recording box is necessary. The plan was then to buy the necessary box.
The pain trying to contact Sky with the arrangements regarding COVID, but persevere I did, pressed all the right buttons on the phone and got through, unfortunately to the wrong advisor who immediately tried to talk me out of cancelling and asking if she could do anything to help. It really is a job to remain calm and polite, but yet I did and she eventually gave up and transferred me to someone who deals with cancellations. The new advisor started the sales talk again, but Rule Britannia, she eventually gave in, realised that I was not for changing, but made a final offer of, now wait for it, £5 a month to allow the sky box to retain it's recording and catch-up facilities. Their announced policy is that you keep the box which only acts as a freesat tuner when you cancel.
That'll do for me and should I need Sky sports news on away days or the odd Euro game then I've never failed yet to find a free stream and with fast fibre broadband reception is never an issue.
