The provisional results for the qualifying round of the Spike Bobberman Cup are in the image at the bottom of this post - click on the image to see the whole thing. The top 64 players (highlighted in yellow) progress to the first round of the knockout stages.
Top scorers, tied on 12 points, were Biscotboy and Make Emile of It, closely followed by JnrSolihullhatter and Westgatehatter on 11. A special mention for YoungJeannie, who was the only predictor to get both half-time and full-time scores correct for the Reading game (several people managed this feat for Forest).
The few high scorers aside, an outbreak of misplaced optimism resulted in a very low-scoring couple of weeks. Quite a number have Lewis Grabban to thank for their solitary point over 2 games, which has seen them safely into the first round proper, whilst 28 posters scoring blanks entered the penalty shoot-out for the remaining places (last season the cut-off came at the 4 point mark!). Those closest to the attendances of the 2 games have filled places 51-64.
Congratulations to those progressing, and commiserations to those whose cup journey ends here.
A lot of maths has been involved in the production of these results! Therefore any queries on the scores should be submitted to me by PM by the end of Friday 15/11/19, to enable me to confirm the results and make the draw for the next round. This will be played on our away game at Brentford on 30th November, so look out for the special cup thread which will be posted the weekend before (or earlier if I canβt contain my excitement!).
One additional note: for this qualifying round, I retrieved predictions from the main prediction thread for those who had somehow missed me spamming the board and the shoutbox with cup information and who had only provided one set of predictions. This was in the interest of the widest possible participation. For the knockout stages, I think it's only fair to both players in a match that predictions should appear on the cup thread, and a large part of the fun of the cup is the interaction between opponents, so be warned that if you're not paying attention from here on in, you may end up forfeiting your tie.
