Most of the recommended and researched pubs are quite close to St James Park and will be packed to the rafters. I think we should seriously look at www.thetyne.com/ even though it might be a taxi ride away which if shared will be very cheap.

How about sjf.co.uk/our-pubs/the-bodega/ Done my research. Google maps say about 7 mins walk from the Station en route to the ground, then 7 mins from The Bodega to the ground. Wanted somewhere with v good food (for wife highly rated as a pub, and elcoming to away support.

What about post-match? I assume there will be plenty of us staying over after the game and going into the City Centre.

Will pop in in the evening for a couple of pints wherever other fools suggest - but booked meal for 8.30 at www.luigikhans.co.uk/ seems very efficient - booked online and speedy confirmation after automated response. For those who choose Indian comes out top in most of the guides and again is a gentle walk from the Centre - the Bodega is 125 Westgate Road, Luigi Khan's is 358 Westgate Road. Checked out the pub with Newcastle fans on their site and was told Bodega very good and, as with just about every pub in Newcastle welcomes away supporters - very few have any ban.

Hi - I’m a new poster to the site – a Hatters fan exiled in the Scottish Borders. I'll be down to see the match in Newcastle with my mate a Heed supporter who lives in Newcastle and knows his beer! Here’s his thoughts on where to get a good pint. The best atmosphere is in The Strawberry just outside the ground, but it'll be heaving of course, with Toon fans. The Bridge Hotel [near the central train station] is a good shout and is only 15 minutes from the ground. You could for instance start there, continue to The Split Chimp micropub, then the Newcastle Tap, The Town Wall and on to the ground. Any pubs nearer the ground tend to be the Sky Sports/John Smiths/Carling lager type places. Other possibilities are Tilleys and The Bodega on Westgate Road, which are beer drinker's pubs rather than football pubs.
Hope this helps.

Thanks joco, all sounds good and really looking forward to the day; will definitely catch up with you for a pint pre-match.

I spent a fair amount of time in the Town Wall after the game and thought it was an excellent little pub. Beer selection in the Tap was fantastic also.

I rather wanted to give the Split Chimp micro brewer pub under one of the rail arches a visit as well as a couple of others. In retrospect, it would have been good to have stayed for a night or so but the train from Peterborough was so quick at 2hrs 20 mins, I opted for the day trip version. Good place Newcastle, one of the best cities I reckon. The Bridge Hotel was really, another recommended bu joco, was very good with 10 hand-pumps.
