Tomorrow evening we take on the Hammers in our first top flight home game since beating Aston Villa 2-0 in 1992. The ground was pretty near full against the Gills on Tuesday but will definitely be full come 8 o'clock Friday night. We have a huge ground advantage so for those going we need non stop singing and support from minute one. COYH! West Ham Trivia. Alf Garnet supported the Hammers in the comedy "Till Death Do Us Part", but actor Warren Mitchell was actually a Spurs fan in real life.

We deserved something from that. We mostly matched West Ham for periods of the game and lost to the initial poorly defended goal. We are a work in progress and things will get better. Luton highlights for me were Chong and Ogbene when he came on and a really impressive performance from Burke. I really hope he can stay fit. I know I'm a Pelly fan but I really would like him to start a game, he can pass and move and he is a threat in and around the opponents box. Sitting in the Bobbers for my first live game of the season was excellent and the pictures below are from my seat. Gale made some comments regarding the brightness of the new lights and the advertising hoardings. The floodlights were a little overpowering. Being pre-warned I wore a peaked cap and polarised glasses and was perfectly fine. It has to be said that the majority of fans around me were not bothered by the extra strength of the light, sitting cap and glasses free. For me the advertising hoardings were not a problem. If anyone currently has a restricted view, then a move to the Bobbers is a viable option. Best view and comfort I've ever had in Kenilworth Road.

For the record, I did like the leg room in the Bobbers but part of my sight disability is light sensitivity and even dark glasses and a cap weren't enough for me.

Thanks Liz for your summary, I watched the game live from the uncovered enclosure and have just watched the whole of the game on Sky replay.......yes we deserved something from that. I wore a peak cap from my position and glad I did as the Bobbers lights are extremely bright. Chong was getting some stick on other social media sites but I thought he was very good never stopped running. I think we'll pick up plenty of points against lesser teams. There is a problem in the area below the David Preece stand totally congested at H/T with stewards using tall placards saying walk this way and nobody taking any notice! How much does this bit of advertising bring in?

There is a problem in the area below the David Preece stand totally congested at H/T with stewards using tall placards saying walk this way and nobody taking any notice! A friend of mine from the main stand said that the new turned-around catering concourse arrangements and the new expanded outside catering/drinking area caused a traffic jam when entering the stadium roughly 15 minutes before kickoff.

Woah thar! Mads admitted that he switches off momentarily when walking up for corners - we conceded West Ham's second goal from a bloody corner! Cause and effect?
That performance showed some relatively big strides forward for some players but evidence that others maybe shouldn't be starting. We looked so much more of a threat going forward when Barkley, Adebayo and Giles were subbed. Our whole tempo stepped up a notch as well as playing the ball more to feet (with faster, crisper passes) or into space behind their defence for Brown or Ogbene to chase and press if a Hammer got there first. West Ham's defenders then had to think about defending whereas before Eli went off, our tactic of hitting long balls to one of the other of Morris or Eli simply played into their hands. It didn't fret them (or Chelsea or Brighton defenders for that matter) and is unlikely to worry many/any PL quality defenders.
Watching Sheffield United vs Everton, the main threats posed by United were from moves that involved a hold-up/target man (McBurnie) and a smaller, pacy, spatially aware accomplice (Archer). Plus playing the ball into the hold-up man's feet rather than head or chest. Two big lumps with average to slow pace and slightly duller anticipation than PL quality demands against classy defenders simply looks impotent. The introductions of Brown and Ogbene against Brighton and West Ham saw marked improvements to what had gone on before.
For fear of a ban, I'd better not type what I truly think of Barkley! PL experience or not, he simply doesn't look like a TEAM player. Having dig at three (at least) of your team mates during the last two matches isn't something that we've seen whilst climbing the pyramid. The ethos, support for each other and camaraderie has galvanised the various squads and the fans have all bought into that in spades. Sorry to say but Barkely leaving the pitch deep in conversation with West Ham's Antonio and not attempting to acknowledge the Luton fans whatsoever, let alone his team mates doing their lap of appreciation, clearly suggests that he doesn't 'get' Luton.
Doughty, Nakamba, Andersen, Pelly, Burke, Chong, Morris, Ogbene, Brown all looked better than their last matches (even if I am including Gillingham in that). So far, I'm not convinced by Giles as a defender - great as an attacker but he clearly has a lot to learn. Unfortunately, whilst he is learning it, Bell is far too exposed, either being attacked or being dragged away from his supposed LCB position. TBH, I would rather see Doughty at LWB even if it means Giles moving forward to midfield, mainly for his crossing - then, if Alfie overlaps him, Giles can drop back. Obviously that is without factoring in the unknown deadline day signings ... but I'm praying that Lokonga replaces Barkley!
