The Boro come to Town tomorrow evening in a game which could be a rehearsal for the playoff final. Back in December they beat us at the Riverside a game which was Rob Edwards first in charge. I don't want to miss this one so will be going see you at the bar! COYH!! Smoggies Trivia. Programme from my dad's collection of an evening game almost 50 years ago. We must have had a few injuries that night judging by the amount of pencilled in player subs. We lost 0-1 let's hope for a better result tomorrow!

The first meeting between Luton and Middlesbrough was on January 16, 1892 with our opponents winning 3 - 0. The first game in living memory (for some) was in September 1954 with Luton victors 2 - 0 in Division 2. Brings back memories (for some) of what a team Luton were that season: Stretten, Dunne, Aherne, Morton, Owen, Shanks, Davies, Turner, MacEwan, Cummins, Adam. Scorers: Turner and Davies That's Roy, Shatter, the South African winger.

Bit of a weird fixture with nothing much at stake except jostling for 3rd or 4th place. Play it cagey or go all out for the psychological advantage?
Hopefully Chuba Akpom's all partied-out from picking up his Championship player of the season award last night.

The Blades are going to lose all their last games and we're going to win ours and go up as runners up! 😉😁

I thought Middlesbrough were superior in all aspects of the game except ringcraft . Oh and possibly heart. I really don't fancy playing them again in the final of the play-offs. I guess I'm not the only one hoping that Osho gets fit as for me Bradley's lack of pace is a liability and really fear for our safety against Middlesbrough's benched top scorer. Lockyer again for me was Man of the Match but equally Marvelous and Cody were up there as well. It's still on, tomorrow will be interesting.

Was at that game, when we had standing season tickets under main stands, Jack Charlton moaned about playing us again having grabbed a point late on at Boro a couple of weeks earlier. We lost I think 1-0 but they were a strong physical team, just need to look at some of their players and what they went on to achieve.

With football or without football, last night was a very enjoyable evening for me; great to see friends I have not been able to see for a while and as an added bonus, three lovely points that make the third place look almost a reality.
I felt Middlexborough looked like a well-coached decent side easily capable of winning the midfield battle; in fact, our attempts to bypass the midfield, particularly in the first half, looked somewhat inferior to Middlesbroug’s passing game. Maybe our lack of creativity in the first half was down to a couple of players being a touch below their best and as Lizard has said, we definitely miss the pacey and strong Gabe Osho in our defence.
Looking at the Boro first goal, probably down to a combination of a lack of pace from our captain and the “WBA technique” of Hovarth. Giving credit to Hovarth, he has had a very good season with many clean sheets and to be fair to others, backed up by an excellent defence. Just think at the start of the season Tom Lockyer could not get a game! Oh, must also give praise to that tackle from Luke Berry late in the game; a player who over many seasons has never let us down.
Thankfully Tom Lockyer did not get a copy of the memo, sent out some seasons back, saying “we never score from corners”: well done Tom, another super game.
There are many interesting games to come to determine which teams occupy 3rd & 4th places. Can’t say I have a preference apart from a good side facing Middlesborough in the semi & hopefully us not having to face Millwall.

Welcome back Bill, good to see you and Shatter last night-clearly our Cornish Pasty half time meeting provided the boost our side needed to chalk up yet another win against 'one of the top sides'. Yes, it's always nervy with Sonny at the back and we all want to see Gabe Osho restored to full fitness but we did enough to win this game and keep the back door closed in the second half. Good to see Clark playing his second half of a game in a few days- what a pass to set up Carlton for the equaliser. Third place is ours to lose now and I'm sure Edwards will be very determined to secure it. Like Boro's squad, some of our players will inevitably show some hesitancy in the last two games as no-one will want to pick up injuries before the PO semis begin but equally, sustaining a winning mentality going into those games is important. We may well be apprehensive about facing many of our possible PO opponents but apprehension is a two way street and the League Table currently says we are better than all of them - COYH!!

I could watch this effort from Luke Berry again and again:

Not in the Sol Davis class but could have been and it was definitely more important.
