We host struggling Cardiff City tonight who have just employed their third manager of the season. A headline I've seen shouts "Bluebirds swoop for Lamouchi to save their season". Let's hope he doesn't weave his magic tonight! Cardiff can only sign out of contract and loan players following a transfer embargo. Can we hold onto a lead and get our home form looking more like our excellent away results let's hope so? COYH!!  Sabri Lamouchi Cardiff City manager. |

A flurry of fixtures will ensure a range of players, some possibly joining today, will feature in the coming weeks. Will be interesting to see how Edwards manages this. Few of us will agonise over that however if, as Shatter says, we can regain home form, and no better time to begin than tonight.

A couple of highs and a couple of lows.
Highlights for me were the performance of Cody Drameh both defending and going forward and man of the match Lockyer, he is really solid and consistent. Lows were the lack of attempts on goal and the attack was very predictable and the penalty. Hitting it there and a keeper going the right way is going to save, hit it high and they are never saved.
4th in the table, well I never.

Morris looked very lacking in match sharpness and all those crosses we put in the only one we really attacked was the goal.

Don't disagree with Liz; Cody certainly is good. The other highlight for me was Pelly going so far forward. He did some super passes which, unfortunately, led to nothing. Our manager seems to want to make changes to the way we play which is no bad thing. The downside for me was our keeper. He punches too much for my liking and his positioning is suspect. Having said that I thought the defence looked better than on Saturday.

After reading comments in a couple of forums, I wonder if I was watching the same match as many others! FWIW, I quite enjoyed the contest and seeing a tight scrap - far more enjoyable than some Conference, L2 and L1 matches where we were duffing other teams up for fun as they were so one-sided.
I thought we moved the ball well and with greater tempo than usual, probably because we had two 'proper' wing backs in Dremah and Doughty who used the full width of the park to stretch Cardiff and offered themselves for attacking passes - by that I mean they were asking for the ball to be played in front of them, further up the pitch rather than Bree/Bell receiving the ball on the halfway line and then having more players to beat. I didn't think we got clogged up in midfield without adequate outlets which results in ponderous backward/sideways possession.
One gripe that I could level at us was that we looked a wee bit too much like Leeds in that our attacking mindset meant that we relinquished some defensive thoughts and got caught out a number of times when we lost possession with too many ahead of the ball and left ourselves open to counter attacks.
Cardiff sat deep so we were never going to 'run riot' but, looking at the statistics, our domination is clear to see ... just a shame that we do not possess the clinical sharpness to convert half chances or targets/height to attack the numerous corners that we forced. Nor do we seem confident enough to shoot from distance.
As with Saturday vs Grimsby, I felt Woodrow was a square peg in a round hole. Not a midfielder and positionally 'lost' when out of possession. When Marvelous starts, Woodrow will be splinter gathering and will become substitute Cornick's replacement. As an aside, given how important his performances were last season, it's hard to imagine that Allan Campbell won't, possibly, make our team when Marvelous, Pelly, Clark, Dremah and Doughty are fit and able.
Coming back to various forums' comments about last night's game, have our expectations become unrealistic? Getting to 4th is one hell of an achievement on our budget and with a squad of players who, generally, have far less technical ability than most others in the league, let lone the upper half of the league. The search for perfection never ends so there will always be things to improve no matter which club you support but our options to iron out such imperfections are more limited (mainly by finances) than other clubs. Consequently, we see multiple club owners flushing money away to compete with those clubs who have received parachute payments ... and then there is us, Rotherham and Blackpool trying to make a fist of it on rigid budgetary constraints. Even if I, too, wonder about a couple of our January window deals, I got to say that our board has done an incredible job!

Very much hope that Campbell is not marginalised as a result of the goings and comings as he is such a terrific player, possibly not at his best recently, but for me a key part of our recent success. Get fit soon Potts, your defence needs you. Good to hear of Rae’s determination, good luck to him. Also good to hear that Drameh had a good debut. Let’s hope that when he does, and despite having only one l, Marvelous is equally impressive.
