Following two excellent results we travel the short distance down the M1 to play our nearest neighbours. It will be my first visit to Vicarage Road for many a year. In fact the last time I went there was no segregation and bottles and spit were flying around! Hopefully those days are gone and we can watch a game safely with just banter flying around. The forecast is for thunder showers so come prepared! COYH!! Trivia anyone?

Today I shall be attending my 1,940th Hatters match and 679th away game - my very first away day was also at Watford, Oct 5th 1968 Div 3, we lost 1-0 to a 2nd min Roy Low goal.
This will be my 24th time I've seen us at the allotments (still more than any other away ground), only missing three VR local derbies in my era from 1966 - I have absolutely no idea why I missed the 1984-85 Div One fixture (we lost 3-0) but guessing it was because of the marathon three FA Cup ties between our clubs that season. Also missed 1993-94 Div 1 (old 2), as I was visiting my sister in Auckland, NZ for Xmas when we came back from 2-0 down at HT to draw 2-2 ..........and sadly missed the epic League Cup 2-1 win in 2002 (the last time we won there). Those who know me, or have read my book will know the reason for that.
It will be the first time we have played there (in front of supporters - 2020 excepted) since 2006 (1-1) and we are also LONG overdue a win. Way back in 1994 (a brilliant 4-2 victory) was the last league Luton victory at VR.
To date, of those 23 fixtures I attended from 1968 - 2006 it's: 8 Luton wins, eight draws and 7 defeats - PLEASE Luton do not lose and round it up to 8-8-8.
It was not that long ago, less than a decade in fact, when we were in the 5th tier Conference and them in the Premiership. Watford supporters used to troll us by saying LTFC were an irrelevance to them now and that cup ties aside, would never play us again in the same league. They added that Stevenage, Barnet and Milton Keynes FC were now our local derbies............If I'm being totally honest I and most Hatters agreed with them in 2013 when we finished 7th in the Conference.
No matter what the result today we will still be above them, but wouldn't it be lovely to get the win and move up to 4th place. We also have our lucky omen in Dawn SW19 attending to try and keep her 100% away winning streak this season continuing.

Not a lot to say, we had chances, just forget and move on.
We obviously missed Lansbury and Potts and on an occasion like today, then probably Pelly as well. We seemed to give them the midfield. Going in 2 down, the odds are, the opposition will score again and turn it into a rout and our keeper ensured that.
Players of note, difficult. Goalkeeper played well apart from his assist for a goal, Doughty and Freeman made some clever touches but all too few but it's difficult to think of any other moments of note.
Can't expect an extended unbeaten run, just a shame it ended at Watford.

We lost a game, so what? The bigger picture is still brighter than I expected after the first 5 or so games. This season, today and Bristol City are the only games in which we have not turned up, not competed and have had absolutely no chance of seeing one point, let alone three ... even if we were using the Hubble telescope to look for them.
Pluses? None whatsoever ... unless today has flagged up positions and/or weaknesses that potentially need to be addressed in January.
Negatives? The bits between the first and last whistles of each half.
As a mate texted: hopefully, we've presented all of our gifts in a single game rather than being spread across several matches. At least we SHOULD learn from today's mistakes and (please) fail to repeat them.
Couple of comments and then this match can be air-brushed from my memory for ever:
1. NJ said that Potts was named but laying down in the dressing room. Before the KO, we had Casey Pettit warming up so, unless he was struck with the same illness, I wonder why he wasn't given a place on the bench ... especially as it was known that Bradley was ill before the KO and unlikely to last 90 minutes.
2. The midfield options may have been severely limited but Freeman really strikes me as a wee bit of a luxury. You know he cannot tackle, run fast nor jump high to compete in aerial battles so his usefulness is somewhat restricted unless he has a 'proper' defensive sitting midfielder behind him. Watford's MF simply ran past and powered away from Freeman and our CBs were exposed far too easily. Quite simply, our MF isn't as competitive with Freeman alongside two other relatively short players so the engine room is dominated by the opposition. Having our normal fitness/energy levels doesn't matter one jot if the opposition MF either outnumbers or out-muscles us in every single challenge. All of that noted, I believe that Lansbury would have got so wound up today with the off-the-ball shenanigans that he would have been a red card walking!

Music drove us through thunder, lightening, v.high winds and rain from Dorset to Watfraud for her first away game this season. What a disappointment and such a lot of effort. Osho is an idiot but illness clearly took its toll. I hope Pelly soon gets over what his problem is as he was sorely missed on Sunday. Unlike Lansbury Pelly rarely loses his cool!

Shocking game from us and agree with everything said. Losing 4 nil to the mercenaries isn't what we are about. Yes if we are honest they have far more skillful players worth a lot more individually but we just didn't show up. We'll bounce back from a bad day at the office. Hopefully April will be different and we can claim a win.
