So that's a squad 23 which is within the max number of 25. Take out the three goalkeepers, and that leaves 20 outfield players including the slowly returning from injury Pelly. Let's hope the hamstring curse does not raise its head very often.

Let's hope the hamstring curse does not raise its head very often. Makes one wonder what the 2 spaces are for. A couple of out of contract players possibly. I'm surprised that Thorpe has gone out after some very promising performances.

Pelly said on Saturday that he's got a couple of weeks (I took that to be in full training). He was certainly looking far happier than the last time I saw him so I'm assuming his assessment is correct. We need a fully fit squad.

So, as at 15:30 on deadline day 31/01/2023, our squad, assuming Harry is off to Bristol City takes the following shape:
Goalkeepers: Horvath (Loan), Walton,
Defenders: Potts, Lockyer, Burke, Bell, Osho, Doughty, Drameh (Loan). Bradley (long-term injury),
Midfield: Clark, Mpanzu, Berry, Campbell, Onyedinma. Lansbury & Freeman both recovering from long-term injury
Strikers: Adebayo, Morris. Woodrow,
So, looking like 17 fit players + 3 recovering from injury = 20 excluding Shea + Watson whom I understand we don’t need to count in the squad of 25. Assume Cornick leaving as OOC in the summer
Shea. Probably not available to the squad for a good while yet

Thanks Bill, be interesting to see how that changes in the coming hours, all this bound to impact in some ways on tonight's game so not ideal timing. I'm sure Mr Edwards has it all in hand.

Excellent signing. Potentially a promotion clincher if we can add another central defender.

So, with Nakamba joining on loan from Villa; our squad looks like this:
Goalkeepers: Horvath (Loan), Walton,
Defenders: Potts, Lockyer, Burke, Bell, Osho, Doughty, Drameh (Loan). Bradley (long-term injury),
Midfield: Clark, Mpanzu, Berry, Campbell, Onyedinma, Nakamba (Loan). Lansbury & Freeman both recovering from long-term injury
Strikers: Adebayo, Morris. Woodrow,
So, looking like 18 fit players + 3 recovering from injury = 21 excluding Shea + Watson
I guess Elliot Thorpe may as well be given a squad number; as I understand he can't go out on loan again this season.

Can't say I understand this one: Ed McJannet has joined Serie A side U.S. Leece on a permanent transfer.
The 19-year-old will move to the Italian club for an undisclosed fee, subject to international clearance.

Joe Taylor signs from Posh, made a name for himself at Wroxham in the Heart of the Norfolk Broads. One for the future I think.

So the likely squad for the remainder of the season looks like this:
Goalkeepers: Horvath (Loan), Walton, Shea (Long-term injury)
Defenders: Potts, Lockyer, Burke, Bell, Osho, Doughty, Drameh (Loan). Bradley (long-term injury).
Midfield: Clark, Mpanzu, Berry, Campbell, Onyedinma, Watson (qualifies even if we had a full squad of 25 due to age), Thorpe (may as well give him a squad number), Nakamba (Loan). Lansbury & Freeman both recovering from long-term injury
Strikers: Adebayo, Morris. Woodrow, Muskwe, Taylor (development squad player for now?)

There have been more changes than I think we anticipated. Drameh will do us proud on last night's showing and I suspect Nakamba will give us some steel we've been lacking. I wonder what Campbell's future will be? He's looked a bit off in recent games, certainly not the player he was last season. I'm not sure about Walton; I liked Istead but according to his mum someone at the club didn't (not the manager). It's going to be an interesting second half to the season.

I must admit I have only seen Istead play a few times, probably too few to form a definite opinion, but whenever I have seen him he has always played well. i think he has been treated poorly by Luton and I hope he does well in the future. I have never really been convinced by Horvath and after his performances against WBA and indeed Cardiff last night I am even more unconvinced by him. How we ever agreed to playing him if he is fit is completely beyond me. Perhaps the same clown is the person who does not rate Istead and come to think of it Macey has played well in both his matches for Portsmouth.
At the present time our squad does not seem balanced and I think there will be a number of old favourites leaving in the summer and a considerable number ofnew recruitments. I think Edwards has a difficult job on his hands and it will probable take at least 2-3 windows to achieve a balanced squad of quality, Iam sure NJ took this into account when deciding to leave.
I think we also need to be better at tying down players of value on their contracts, if they have a year to go and are seen to have value they should be offered a new contract. If they refuse to sign then sell them. Our contract policy may have been ok in divs. 1 & 2 but not in the Championship. Luton need to get top dollar for all players sold, which has not been the case of late.
