The Town take on the Blues in the first game of the 22/23 season tomorrow. As has been mentioned on the Shout Box our last two encounters with them left an aggregate score of 8-0 in their favour, hopefully we will remedy this starting tomorrow. Looking forward to meeting up with friends and to seeing some of our new players. See you at the Bar or at the ground, COYH!! Birmingham Trivia. Some good news and some bad news. Good News. Lee Bowyer has left the club. Bad News. Troy Deeney hasn't.

If Deeney plays hopefully Henri Lansbury comes into contact with him. That'll be fun.

Tomorrow sees the start of my 56th league campaign following Luton Town.
It will be my 1,929th Hatters game attending and the 1,253rd at Kenilworth Road.
I've seen us play Blues 13 times at home since the first, a memorable 3-2 Div 2 win in 1971 after trailing 0-2 on 22 mins. A magnificent Town comeback with Viv Busby scoring a pair and a fabulous Alan Slough RIP free kick in front of 25,172, including 10,000 Brummies - a crowd never since (or ever will be) beaten in the LEAGUE at the Kenny! .............we did have 27,023 (+ over 5,000 locked out) in the same 70-71 season League Cup 3 tie v Arsenal (0-1) and in 1973-74 FA Cup 5 v Leicester (0-4) 25,712.
Will I see my 5th Luton win against Birmingham at KR, a seventh draw, or 4th defeat?

Even better news - Lyle Taylor has returned to Forest, full of intent I’m sure to parade his talent on the PL. Something of a gamble too, to appoint John Eustace, v much hope his first match ends in defeat.
Our squad, both old and new, will be eager to redress the 0 8 outcome of last season’s encounters. Looks like we may have acquired some good players but think we may miss Naismith this season - what a tremendous job he did for us.
Give them a cheer in my absence and ensure the Blues are sent home well and truly blue.

Luton won that by 4 good attempts at goal to none from Birmingham. A surprise team selection when it appeared at 2pm with no Burke after his performance against West Ham, guess he's carrying a knock and no Woodrow. However Potts showed that the Championship is not beyond him.
There were some excellent Luton performances. In the first half Clark and Freeman, who's he, were quality and in the second half I thought Bree was exceptional. I wouldn't argue with the sponsors making Clark man of the match.
One discussion point is goalkeeping. There was a big un and a medium size one on show. Ours, Horvath flapped at a couple of balls into the box. Their's caught everything that was thrown at him. I'm thinking that Macey's height will be an advantage, certainly against better attacking teams than Birmingham.
An acceptable opening point and an enjoyable game to watch.

I saw that very differently, Dave. I thought Horvath was rock solid, and will be worth quite a few points to us this season. Clark was magnificent, as was Bradley. Didn’t think Amari was quite on his game though, and Bree wasted a couple of good opportunities with poor passes, notably to a clearly offside Adebayo. Still it’s a point up on last season, and our goal difference is 0 rather than minus 5 !!

Surprised that no one else has commented on the game. Perhaps a lot are still on holiday, or watching the cricket?

Having had a couple of days to mull it over I think my overall feeling was a disappointment. Against a very ordinary Brum side we failed to create clear chances all our half chances coming from someone creating a bit of space individually on the edge of the box.It was definitely 2 points dropped and we looked as blunt as we did at the end of last season. Adebayo was poor,he looked knackered,Bree and Bell didnt add much attacking threat until Harry came on down Bree's side. All this after a sparkling opening 15 mins in which Freeman looked like a great addition. Ruddy proved what an asset a goalkeeper who comes for crosses is although we continually put it too close to him.Plus points Horvath,Osho,Bradley,Freeman and of course Clark. Onwards and upwards lets show Burnley they are not going to walk this division.

The one-on-one created for Cornick to miss the target was more than a half chance!

They certainly weren't sharp overall and the combination didn't seem quite to work. Still, players are still carrying injuries and it's early days. Better result than last year but Sunday afternoon's was a more entertaining game!

It was definitely a classic first game of the season. Brum came for a draw and we failed to take chances and break them down enough. Cornick missing was the game for me. If that had fallen to Woodrow it's likely to have been scored. No shame in getting a point against a team we struggled against last year but they are definitely worse so a little disappointing. One small criticism of Jones I don't think he earned his money and could have changed tactics and personal earlier. His rant about time wasting was hilarious as we do it and so does everyone else. This Saturday will be a tougher test but a point is a good start.

Slightly concerned about Elijah, he is either not fully match fit or his mind was elsewhere. I will give him the benefit of doubt and opt for not being fully match fit. No doubt time will tell.
