World Cup and the 2022/23 season.

This years World Cup has meant some changes to our domestic league timings.
The Championship season starts about a week earlier than most years on Saturday 30th July.
On November 12th the Championship plays it's last game before the tournament starts.

When the group stage of the WC ends the Championship resumes on the 10th December.
The Championship continues till the last Weekend on the 6thMay. And the playoff Final is about the same day as this years.

 The season starts a week early, then there's a four week break for the WC and then continues to finish on the same weekend as this years season. 
So that three weeks fixtures have to be fitted in from the 10th December till the 6th May
What a huge upheaval just to stage a world cup in the Middle East.

Having seen the fixture list for 22/23 season many mid week games to fit in plus League Cup and FA Cup matche. For fans who live miles from Luton many missed games.

It's going to be a lot like the second half of last season, when we'd had our unplanned covid break and the schedule was madness. Our signings seem to suggest NJ really wants to avoid the injury/availability crisis we ended up with then...

We've been very lucky with the winter weather for years now, one of these days we'll have a shock with snow like we had in 1963 and 1947! I think in 63 there were no matches for two months! One advantage of climate change.

On Dec 28, 1962 I went into the L&D to have my appendix out. Bramingham were top of the league, division four or thereabouts. I never missed a game. Unfortunately, first game back, Central Youth were due up and they outplayed and hammered us 6-2 at Sundon Park. An enduring benefit from this came in the following close season when we doggedly pursued and eventually signed their main striker, Mick Arnold, who went on to lead our attack in company with Robbie Butcher for many years to come.
