Tomorrow nights game should have been played on New Years Day and is the last of our covid affected postponed matches. We're once again affected by injuries and will find it difficult to find a fully fit first team and bench, but this bunch of players may well surprise us with a positive result. I was looking forward to watching on ifollow but alas it's not being screened in the UK, a shame. COYH!! The crest on the team shirt shows a phoenix rising from the ashes, the eagle of Leofric the husband of Lady Godiva and an elephant supporting a castle. And of course a football.

Is that Jimmy Hill's beard under the bird on the right? Ha ha! Didn't know he was ginger? Apparently Jimmy had a lot to do with the design of the crest but a lot came from the original Coventry coat of arms, obviously the Sky Blue football was definitely his idea.

Yes, good trivia. Hope Leofric has his phone switched on as he may be getting a call up tonight if our casualty list is as extensive as rumoured? A great chance for other squad members to show their credentials and fighting spirit - COYH!

Two poor 'footballing' teams separated by one piece of class.
Thought our loan keeper had a good game and of the outfield players then Lockyer deserves a mention. How bad was Potts but understandable as he doesn't get too many chances. Was anyone entertained? Guess we were when the final whistle blew.

I was entertained - even though we scored when I was coming up the steps from a pee break and missed the goal!
Jinx WHAT Jinx! At LAST, my very first win in Coventry at the 9th attempt after seven Town defeats and a draw.
The 116th different ground I've now seen Luton win on. Fingers crossed it will be 117 on April 19th at Hull.
Clark my MOTM, superb, with Berry putting in a shift too. Our backline defence including keeper played really well.

I thought that Pelly struggled to get his game going in the first half with a series of misplaced passes and probably not helped by the referee giving fouls against both Pelly and Adebayo for reasonable challenges; similar challenges by Coventry players were ruled legal. Pelly improved by some distance after that first half-hour; maybe just rusty. Also on the negative side, Bree’s first two dead-ball kicks were pretty awful.
On the positive side, a win, after a disjointed early period, we improved and played as a team working hard for each other. In terms of individuals, Lockyer was quite outstanding closely followed by Clarke and Bell. When Bell first arrived I felt, yes he is good, then an uncertain period followed but now in recent games, back to good.
Overall, given the players out injured, a very good result.

Well, I'm not sure how we got anything out of that match. Extremely fragmented and disjointed and looked every bit like a patched-up team with no real leaders or, in he first half, anyone with the ability to try to take control of the play ... but WE took our only real first half chance and then the performance was all about doggedness, nastiness and frustrating Coventry, which we did with aplomb!
We weren't Rolls Royce in the first half, being more akin to a clown car on wheels shaped like threepenny pieces - you kept expecting the wheels and doors to fall off and go in different directions. Could (probably should) have been 1-0 down in 15ish seconds when Potts was cat-napping and caught in possession immediately after the KO - not exactly the start on NJ's blueprint in the dressing room.
Our team had a poor shape too often in that first half but, thankfully, Coventry couldn't capitalise. Too frequently, our midfield seemed clustered together in the middle of the pitch and left rafts of space down the flanks - but we got away with it ... somehow! Three decent first half saves from Palmer - plus the Wycombe-esque assist.
Great to bank three points and go home but it wasn't easy on the eye ... or my ticker! Also great to see that we can have a bit of devilment about us but equally frustrating that the referee was quick to yellow us for those whilst trying desperately not to yellow Coventry players for similar misdemeanours. There were a couple of times where I thought he was going to drag out a second yellow as we were living on a knife-edge with fairly incessant waves of attacks down both flanks.
Also, as Wimbo pointed out, the Bree deliveries for his first few set pieces were of his pre-Sheehan quality! OUR first corner one needed Bell to take a yellow for the team in his own half as the first man simply hit a long ball that caught us out. Ditto for another one in the second half when we had inadequate cover for their two strikers on the halfway line - Pelly got a yellow for that one.
Kudos to NJ and the physios who used the 'vinegar and brown paper' approach to cobble together a midfield that was clearly unfit - yet, bizarrely, both Clark and Pelly looked stronger from mid-second half than they did at the start ... probably because they'd suddenly remembered where they needed to be rather than ball watching and ball chasing.
Cracking result - gaining the same number of points as our demolition of Coventry at KR - but it would be nice if we could string some passes and moves together rather than the clunky staccato rhythm currently being shown. Maybe NJ's saving that for the play-offs!

Thank you, guys. Perhaps Clarke and Pelly had to play themselves into the game.

Agree with Loyal, I was certainly entertained, but managed not to miss the goal and very much enjoyed Clark's performance in particular. It was certainly was a disjointed performance from us, helped by Coventry's inability to take their chances. This was partly due to an excellent display from Alex Palmer (who I would personally choose over Jed Steer) - Mark Robins was prob right to say that Coventry deserved to win.
But deserving to win doesn't feature in the stats and we chalked up yet another Championship away win.I sat next to a Pelly Sceptic which was an experience in itself but sadly he did have a lot to complain about on this occasion. I rarely mention referees because it's largely pointless but Oliver Langford was fussy, inconsistent and 'over yellow'.
Adebayo's stand out moment was his goal which was well taken but maybe should have been saved (check out the link below)? I posted before the game that due to injuries this could be an opportunity for others to show credentials/fighting spirit and although it wasn't always lovely, they did.
Premiership doubters/loathers have to prepare themsleves for a still unlikely but not impossible promotion at the end of the season.

As I was only just got into my seat when the game kicked off, I wasn't aware Pelly was captain for the evening. Maybe his improved second half performance was down to the management team slackening off the armband and allowing blood to flow back into his brain and legs.
One slight concern, a mate texted this afternoon to say that Potts was struggling whenever he tried to hit any passes/clearances with any power - I didn't spot it, myself, but guess Potts had to persevere as there were no obvious replacements on the bench and we may well have already used 3 subs by then. We probably need the extra day to recover before QPR.
