Welcome to the Spike Bobberman Cup for the 2017/18 season.
Following our move to the LtfcFool, the Spike Bobberman Cup preliminary round will commence with the Notts County home on 9th December 2017. Please do have a look through the rules which explain the preliminary round and the scoring system that will be used in the cup competition.
This will be my first season running the competition; in previous seasons it has been run excellently by HatterSussex and if I can do half as well a job in the administration of the competition, then I will be a happy Hatter.
I thought it would be worth running through the format and scoring system that will be used for this season's Spike Bobberman Cup.
Firstly the dates when the cup games will take place are:
Preliminary round based on the outcome of two consecutive games:
Notts County: 09/12/2017
Forest Green: 16/12/2017
This preliminary round will form a "golf style" cut with the highest ranking 64 players scoring cumulative points collected over the two games moving onto the first round proper i.e. everybody who posts in the Bobberman leagues get's to take part on an equal footing at the two-match preliminary stage.
We then move onto the draw for the 1st round proper. As in the past, a player will play against whoever they are randomly drawn against and the winner of that tie will move on to the next round of the cup. The dates for the knockout stages of the cup are:-
1st Round Proper (64 players): Newcastle United FA Cup (a): 06/01/2018
2nd Round (32 players): Morecambe (h): 20/01/2108
3rd Round (16 players): Exeter (h): 03/02/2018
4th Round (8 players): Cambridge (a): 03/03/2018
Semi-Final (4 players): Mansfield (h): 02/04/2018
Final (2 final players): Notts County (a): 05/05/2018
Secondly, the scoring system which will be similar to previous years:
Correct score: 5 points
Correct result: 3 points (note: if you get the correct result then you get the five points and NOT 5+3 points; same applies to the HT position).
Correct score at HT: 2 points
Correct result at HT: 1 point
A correct scorer: 1 point for each goal scored by a player i.e. if you name for example Olly Lee as a scorer and he scores twice, you get 2 points.
In the event of a tie, there will not be any replays instead we move directly to a penalty shootout with the winner being the player who has predicted an attendance closest to the published actual attendance for that game.
Thirdly, I will post an announcement on a Sunday each week before there is a cup round and invite players to predict on that cup thread:
Your score prediction for the game
Your HT prediction
Your Scorers
Your prediction for the attendance for that game.
As with the Bobberman League, your prediction needs to be recorded at least one hour before the kick-off time.
Finally, if you inadvertently miss the chance to post your score for the cup ON THE CUP THREAD, then I will attempt to pick up your routine Bobberman League prediction in lieu but you will of course then not benefit from the potential extra points available for the HT score and attendance estimate if a penalty shoot-out is required.
Example of the scoring system:
An example of what a players prediction may look like using the game against Notts County on 09/12/2017 for demonstration:
Luton 1 Notts County 1
HT: 0-0
Hylton, Berry, Cornick (E Lee)
If that game finishes let's say 1-1 with the HT score of 0-1 and Berry scores a goal, then the player will score:
Correct Score: 1x5 points = 5pts
Correct result: N/A as you got the right score.
Correct HT score: = 0 points
Correct HT result: = 0 points
Correct scorer: = 1 point
Total points scored = 6 points
Let's imagine Curlz has been drawn against LTFC Mick and they both score 6 points then we move to the penalty shootout. The winner of the shootout will simply be the player who posted their prediction crowd attendance closest to the published attendance.
Any issues, then please send me a pm or have a chat with me and I will clarify.
Good luck and enjoy the competition.
All the best, Wimbo
