Well, we take on the mighty Doncaster at Kenilworth Road on Saturday, the team of our good friend on 262 Spike. When researching pubs for the return away fixture later in the season, Spike provided me with a lovely bit of trivia about the formation of Doncaster Rovers and their use of the Salutation pub for their changing rooms, text below:
A little bit of history with Doncaster Rovers and the Salutation: Back in the days of Doncaster being the centre of the coal mining industry, a few fellas were having a few pints in the Salutation. After one or three too many, an idea emerged about getting together to have a game of football with the local deaf and dumb school, to help raise some funds for them: from this discussion came the birth of Doncaster Rovers. In the early days of the club, the Salutation was used as Doncaster Rovers changing rooms. Again thanks to Spike for providing that lovely bit of history.
It would be nice to think that the Donny players would be sporting enough to have a few beers before kick off; just to give us the edge!
Looking forward to the game and also I hope to catch a good few "fools" for a beer before the game

"There's no fool like an old fool" as the saying goes! See you in the Landsedowne. Is Spike coming down for the game?

Spike had expressed his intention of coming but I think his health is not good enough. If he does turn up please give him my regards.

Yes I have been in touch with Spike and he will definitely be having a pre-match beer at the Lansdowne; smashing bloke and really looking forward to catching up with him and his wife again.

He's staying at the Leaside Hotel tonight and Saturday night. I have booked him in the Lansdowne restaurant for fine dining tonight and he will be taking lunch and a tipple or three tomorrow.

They were dropping like flies but battled like lions
The first 10 minutes, then bite your nails and hope for a point, then we were one behind and we never come from behind. Captain Cuthbert carried off, Sheehan dripping blood and countless visits by our trainer. Think the 11 minutes added time in the first half and the 8 minutes in the second tells a tail and it was all for Luton's heroes.
I cannot find criticism of any of our players and our 262 sponsors, nominated Pelly for MoM, difficult choice, you couldn't separate several of them. Cameron, ran his socks off and those who never saw Gordon Turner take a penalty, that was like it was. Lee played well and provided a perfect cross for Cameron's first and the defence were magnificent. James Justin must have a mention, another who if selected as MoM, nobody would have argued. We have a good one here and he will go from strength to strength.
So 7,900, disappointing but a good attendance from Doncaster but keep this level of performance up and tickets will be at a premium at Kenilworth Road.
Finally, great to welcome Spike and his good lady to the alcove today and I hope his Friday and Saturday visits to the Lansdowne were enjoyable.

Can’t argue with you comments Dave, we were definitely at the same match.
My kneejerk reaction is that we have had a great win from a game we could so easily have been well out of after the first 10 minutes; we could so easily have been a couple of goals behind instead of just the one. Really a couple of those Donny chances were from terribly cruel ricochets from attempted clearances. Also in truth Donny are a very decent side and to my mind will be close to the top three at the end of the season.
We had some really decent performances today and not many better than Olly Lee’s contribution who after a shaky start really worked his socks off. I really don’t like the MOM concept but in truth, a good number could have won that accolade today; pick any from Lee, Pelly, Justin or even McGeehan once he got into the game. Overall after settling down, a really terrific team performance against a very good Donny side.
I will probably post a few more thoughts in the morning.

Those four were our short list Bill. Very difficult choice. I think I actually favoured Justin. That young man has a bright future.

Very assured and confident on the ball, it must have been a dificult decision to make.I believe Greeno gatecrashed the Eric! Yes he did but he wasn't received quite as enthusiastically as last time! Gate crashing was not difficult. The Eric was open to all season ticket holders! How can you gate crash when there is no gate? I will allow him to impress piggy on 262!

I have produced my usual ramblings of a report on my whittler site, link: whittlerhatter.weebly.comAs usual, I am happy for the link to be posted on another site as a hyperlink. I am very much looking forward to Hartlepool on Tuesday; I really hope its Vassell that replaces Danny Hylton and not McQuoid.
