It looks as if NJ & MH will have an incredibly busy summer as the team is rebuilt from the base of the one that got us promoted through the leagues. We have so many out of contract players; some we will not wish to keep into next season, some will choose to move on to further their careers. Note: from the squad of 25 announced by NJ in February to see us through to the end of this season, as many as 15 could be leaving our club.
Out Of Contract Players 1. James Shea (I think contract for Shea runs out June 2021) 2. Martin Cranie 3. Dan Potts 4. Ryan Tunnicliffe 5. Sonny Bradley 6. Matty Pearson 8. Luke Berry 9. Danny Hylton 14. George Moncur 17. Pelly-Ruddock Mpanzu 19. James Collins 25. Kazenga LuaLua On Loan & OOC: Elliot Lee
On Loan Players Returning To Parent Club 22. Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall 27. Sam Nombe 39. Tom Ince Also Eunan O'Kane
Players Contracted To Stay 7. Harry Cornick 12. Simon Sluga 15. Tom Lockyer 16. Glen Rea 18. Jordan Clark 21. Harry Isted 24. Kal Naismith 26. James Bree 28. Joe Morrell 29. Elijah Adebayo Returning To Luton Loan Players Peter Kioso Gabriel Osho

Plus I think we will struggle to keep a couple who could earn possible more ££ elsewhere. Bradley worth keeping only if we struggle to get a better CB IMO. Bree & Morrell need a good pre-season & I can’t see NJ discarding either. As for Glen Rea, we have two players in one: the lost Sunday morning pub team player and the strong defensive midfield player. Trouble is you never know which Rea will turn up but the thing in common with both Rea-good & Rea-ugly is a mountain of yellow cards.

I would keep Rae but ONLY play him as a defensive midfield player. As soon as he's put in central defence he crumbles and takes weeks to recover. I would like to see Morrell come good. There is a decent player in there somewhere but I think KDH has kept him out this season.

It's true to say that I am not his biggest fan but for the money available for transfer or wages cannot see anything much better arriving. I actually think Piggott and Stockley are better centre forwards, even Furlong if he's not yet on a zimmer frame. We have to develop our own and Adebayo et al are the way forward, but unfortunately not instantly. My reasoning with Moncur and LuaLua is that it is unrealistic to attract anything better and more skillful from the lower leagues and think that Ince has proven, nothing better available from those willing to drop down the pyramid. Tunnicliffe, the Melbourne pair and possibly Cranie also illustrate this point, although Cranie is useful to have on the bench. Bree, a difficult decision, can he get last season's form back, possibly worth a gamble. Morrell, I'll stick with my view. He's shown nothing that suits him to Nathan's style of play or to indicate that he is a Championship player. Possibly his last club, a poor side, illustrates well his abilities.

I like both Moncur and LuaLua but even the all-round improvement in Moncur’s game working hard when he does not have the ball/tracking back just does not get much recognition under NJ in terms of minutes.
With Morrell, I am told he is a decent player and indeed can start now and again for Wales but I have not seen enough of him to take a view if he is a Rea competitor for the defensive midfield role or a creative type kept out of the side by the excellent KDH.
Overall in the summer, I think there will be many clubs with OOC lists as long as the list that we have and hopefully some good talent that we can land for free. I am thinking along the lines of the outstanding pair Clark & Lockyer who were OOC at their respective clubs. I reckon it will be a highly entertaining summer with hopefully the klaxon signalling a new arrival sounding very early in the window.

I agree with Lockyer and am surprised he joined if the maximum salary applied, however a signing on bung may have been involved. Clark has shown flair and ability. If he is allowed to play to his strengths then an asset. By no stretch of imagination is he a full back so the wing part of that combination is irrelevant, defending comes first.

When NJ was on Hatter Chatter he said LTFC insist on watching players they bring in --none of this agent recommendation/video games for our club. On this basis they will almost certainly know now

Whilst I get the thinking behind ‘Le Cull de Lizard’ it’s important to remember that this group of players have already chalked up 50 points this season and are currently 13th in the table. So a wholesale clear out may cause more problems than it solves? Against that argument is the relative superiority of the incoming players such as Naismith, Clark and Elijah. Will Nathan conclude that he has done all he can at Luton and also move on rather than risk presiding over relegation next season? Rutland, reassuring to hear that watching/monitoring is the supposed modus operandi for acquisition. All intriguing stuff. We all want our squad to be more effective next season but to achieve that will require a great deal of judgement, some luck and not an inconsiderable amount of cash.

All most interesting. Personally I think retaining our championship status over the past two seasons has been truly remarkable and a great credit to the players and staff. I do not think any of us expected us to gain promotion from Div.1 at the start of that season and the majority of the players OOC were with us then.
Harsh as it may seem I do not think that the majority of our players are championship standard when performing at their "normal" level, however most of them have managed to perform at their A+ level for enough matches, through sheer grit and determination to enable survival. Recently and especially over the past two games it would appear that time has finally caught up with them. It is worth remembering that because of Covid they have not really had a decent break from the game for two seasons.
I think that key to decisions moving forward is whether or not NJ considers the young players mentioned by Liz good enough top move up into the senior squad. Also will NJ add Kioso and Osho to the squad or let them go. My concern with NJ is that in the past he has seemed reticent to back youngsters. Following his performance against Man U I was amazed that Kioso was then loaned to Bolton. He returned at Xmas and despite the fact that all recognised right backs were injured at the time was shipped off to Northampton. Has something happened behind the scenes? will he be retained and given a proper opportunity?

Near to being a miracle last season, looking secure this, but will not be an easy ride next season with 3 relegated from the Prem and a strong possibility of 3 big clubs getting promotion. So another fight with not a lot of fan enjoyment. Nathan likes to take credit for JJ's development but his selection seemed to be as a bench warmer, so I hope his attitude towards Kioso is different. I think he could be the true wingback we have lacked this season.
