I previously 'bigged-up' Gnanduillet when he was released by Blackpool but he then cleared off to Turkey. Well, he's just been released and I'd still take a serious look at him if he is affordable and whilst we struggle to make the most of some chances. Plus the fact that we struggle to win headers in the opposition's half of the pitch from long balls by Sluga/Shea or our defenders. Gnanduillet may not be proven in the Championship but the report suggests Derby are interested so they may believe he offers something for this level. Can see Wycombe being the type of club who would jump at signing someone this tall as a foil for their long-ball game. He'd be different to anything we've had for some seasons but it would give us an option to change our style if our tippy-tappy attempts to score perfect team goals needs to be somewhat more direct! Plus, he isn't that bad a player with the ball at his feet. Wycombe have shown that some teams at this level struggle to shackle 'robust' players and he fits that description. www.derbycounty.news/transfers/unplayable-reported-derby-and-charlton-target-armand-gnanuillet-now-a-free-agent-after-club-exit/

A forward we are allegedly interested in is Eamonn Brophy currently with Kilmarnock. However, his goalscoring record is not good so I suspect it's a bit of agent activity rather than genuine interest.

Interesting comment from Brendon Rodgers post match today, On the transfer window: "There maybe more going out than coming in. Finances are tight.". I am hoping that will give us a better chance of getting KDH on another season loan or an outright purchase at a good price for us. Frank Lampard said something similar earlier last week so if these Premier clubs are feeling the pinch it must be dire for many in the EFL. For this window I really hope we don`t make any purchases (values are always inflated in this window) as current values will have been eroded by the end of the season and I believe we have enough to stay up. With the EFL salary cap there will be many many quality players OOC at the end of the season who will no longer be able to find clubs to pay sky high salaries, this level playing field will work big time in our favour.

Fascinating post Steve and one that suggests that something good at least football-wise may come from this pandemic. I would love to see KDH stay at Luton for as long as possible, even as a long continuation of his on loan status.

Interesting Bonny Lad. Perhaps we could afford the previously unaffordable CCV after all.

If GS were to search deep into his many pockets he may find a few Sestertius jangling around in there, we could throw at Plymouth and Prize Jephcot from their grasp, he seems to score for fun...

Curlz, we should have kept the receipt for the last purchase we made from Plymouth in a January window! That really was a Corporal Jones signing rather than a Nathan Jones one!
With the complete unpredictability of results across most divisions (presumably due to the compressed season and games every 3-4 days), it is hard to say whether some of the players who are 'making names for themselves' in L1 and L2 are actually any better than others around them - it could simply be down to the fact that they are more consistent over a relatively short period ... and could go off the boil just as quickly as they hit form.
I'd hate to be Gary Sweet, Mick Harford or Nathan Jones ATM as any January signings could be little more than a punt yet signings in that window are made in the hope that that bring instant results - sadly, they rarely do. MH commented that scouting was proving difficult because of limited access to games - presumably that means we are having to watch videos of potential targets rather than in the flesh where a much clearer assessment can be built. That noted, I think we all know that a striker is becoming a necessity, if only because Collins is OOC in May/June/July/whenever this season finishes! Is Nombe the answer? I haven't a clue! Maybe he ticks boxes if we get relegated but not if we survive - he hasn't had enough game time to know quite what he can offer. I hope he gets a run out in the FA Cup this weekend.
WRT Kioso and Osho, my guess is that they could be needed from January if our squad is suffering from Covid and we cannot postpone matches. From what I've read, the FA Cup matches WILL be played this weekend come what may ... even if it means reserve/academy players representing the clubs. If our Covid-positives are defenders then maybe that's why Osho has been recalled - also, playing against his previous employers would also be a massive incentive for the lad.
Taking Premier League loans? Not very easy given that the PL clubs now name 9 subs per match - that's 21 out of 25 nominated PL players per match that are unlikely to be available. What does that leave? Realistically, U23 and academy players and finding another KDH (who will be very special one day) is quite unlikely: KDH showed he could compete in men's football at Blackpool last season so his signing was far less risky - taking an U23 player who hasn't previously been on loan at a L1 club would be one heck of a gamble IMHO.
COYH.

KDH has played for Leicester's first team, albeit in cup games, and has been on their bench. He's come to us, presumably, to give him real match experience at a good level which he wouldn't get on the bench and as a young and potentially very good player Leicester will want to see him improve. There might be other prem teams in that position --I don't think the numbers prem teams have on the bench will lessen their inclination to loan players. The key for us would be getting the right loan player. I'm not convinced free scorers in Leagues 1 and 2 are the answer. Hylton used to score for fun, as did Collins, in Ls 1 and 2 but in the championship the defences are so much better and the game much faster that their opportunities are limited.

As Ickle says in the shout box journalist Pete o'Rourke has tweeted that Luton are about to sign utility man Kai Naismith who can play left back or striker. Naismith left crisis club Wigan last week by mutual consent.

Newspaper speculation that Preston want Sonny Bradley on a cut-price deal. Although he isn't my most favourite player why on earth would we want to give him away cheaply?

Perhaps thats why we brought in a left footed centre back (Naismith) and Potts been playing centre a couple of times.
