Looking at the Championship teams, the three promoted from L1 and ourselves are the four 'obvious' minnows in the pond.
One possible route to safety could be teams starting on minus points or picking up deductions during the season. Otherwise, I cannot see any others that cannot spend their way out of a relegation battle, even if they cannot sufficiently fund the club to push at the top end.
IMHO, we will need a good start and an identifiable style of play that allows us to hurt teams rather than just relying upon breakaway goals and hanging on by the fingernails - the biggest thing about that is mobility and pace, which we do not have from our current squad. Barnsley showed after lockdown that they can play attractive and effective football - their manager has given them an identity that allows them to attack in numbers and, FWIW, I think they will be vying for PO places next season IF they recruit well in a couple of places. So I don't see them in a relegation battle.
Reading are an unknown - despite being linked with targets requiring funds for transfer fees, they have a massive job of offloading high earners to comply with FFP ... can't see them doing that so they could need a flying start to make contingency for a deduction. They lost more in ONE season (£40.6m) than the rules allow for three seasons (£39m)!
Another unknown is Bournemouth - they will need to get rid of a lot of PL costs and quality - Stoke and Huddersfield showed the transition isn't easy and they retained quite a large chunk of their respective PL squads.

I keep reading comments on various forums about us signing CCV as he's entering his last season under contract at Spurs and he's so far down their pecking defensive order that the next person in line is their kitman. Sorry, but let's get real! Even if the transfer fee being bandied around (£1.5m-£2m) is correct, apart from ridiculous wages demands, he would command a similarly ridiculous signing on fee. Our club would have to compete with many larger clubs for his signature and I simply cannot see that he would want (or need) to sign for us to fight a season-long relegation battle when there would be better clubs who would be in better league positions, possibly with a tilt at the Championship PO places. CCV put himself in the shop window during his loan with us and did himself a massive favour ... and us at the same time! A the CBs we had at the time he arrived, he was another level (or two) up and it showed. That wouldn't have been missed by wealthier Championship clubs. Would I like him to sign for us? Hell, yeah! Do I think we'll be playing against him next season? Hell, yeah! We need at least one better central defender than Pearson and Bradley but it will be a 'Mission Impossible' to get someone as good as CCV on loan (assuming we approach PL clubs) or on a permanent (dipping into lower leagues). Bree is also on silly wages at Villa so trying to make him a permanent signing would push our club's finances to it's limits even if he, too, is entering his final season under contract. In case of relegation, we would need to move players like CCV and Bree on and one season deals (unless there is genuine potential to make profits on them) isn't going to entice them to KR. Also, if signing on fees are in the "wow, really?" category, then playing players like them for just one season makes a massive impact as the club may then have to repeat the process in 12 months and cough up yet more signing-on fees for replacements ... and that assumes they can be moved on, of course. When you consider that one of our January flops' signing-on fee cost the club an average £5K per game played then what would that figure be for a Championship quality player if it was spread over just one season? Sorry, but we are the Wycombe of the Championship (even if they are as well, now!) Next season will be about unearthing a some lower league gems with a work ethic that mimics our last nine games (except Reading) but, hopefully, a bit better mobility and pace. I have little doubt that NJ will be able to organise the troops better than GJ allegedly managed and that improvement will be key for us - but endeavour and sheer determination doesn't always overcome quality and that's what we will be facing again. Minimum 5 signings required IMO and that's without Glen Rea leaving ... it's a hell of an ask. COYH.
An excellent If Deflating Slightly Post Proudhatter74, And I must confess to agreeing to virtually every word But.....
I mentioned some time ago, the sale of JJ and Stacey raising reputedly £12,000,000 and was put promptly in My place by being told that those would be in stage Payments. I was wondering if we had actually had any of those stage Payments yet. This gave Me an Idea which Will help us and May in time help Tottenham recoup what they see as his value.
A fair number of our Loan signings, that came to the Kenny and made an impression, especially on the Fans also never escaping the Eagle Eye of the Board, Expressed a wish to stay at LTFC. There are a few If you put Your mind to it. One of My Favourites because he went to the Press saying it, was Cameron McGeehan, and we ended up with a deal that as far as I could see suited everybody.
Could we Possibly afford to pay Tottenham in one payment ( Yes but it would probably Kill us ). What about paying them in the same stage payments that we receive for JJ and Stacey. Eg. Offer Tottenham £1.5 Mil over 5 years and throw in 50% of any sell on fee if he leaves with the first 5 Years.
At some Point every club in the Country must be prepared to bite the bullet or lose the player for nothing, and having said that I believe that some footballers will stand up and tell their relative Agents... THIS IS WHAT I WANT ! So shut up Whining and get it pushed through. Footballers really must stand up for themselves, we have read on hundreds of occasions that some transfers quite simply have not worked, and it has set the Players and their careers back years.
I do believe If CCV really wants to play for us, He could Swing it.
I Sincerely Hope He does...

Last year Lua Lua wanted to play for us, so much so he sacked his agent!

I'm guessing with the departures of Macmanaman and Butterfield Jordan Clark would be expected to fill the void there. No fee, so still leaves us with a few Bob perhaps to maybe make an offer for CCV. Fingers well and truly crossed on that one mind...

With LuLu being the only one left of "The Famous Five" still to sign, Jones will be left in no doubt what positions we need to fill the most and I would imagine he will have a very good Idea of the money he will be allowed to spend in doing just that. I would still like to see Steve Rutter turn up at the Kenny but as each day passes, it's one day closer to the new season starting. 4 still required in My view. Hopefully a bit of good cheer in the coming week will get us all Buzzing again.
