Tomorrow we welcome high flying Doncaster Rovers to the Kenny. Formed in 1879 by workers from the Great Northern Railway workshop, Rovers have an interesting history. Ast other things participation in the longest ever FA Cup tie against Stockport County in 1946, the game lasted 203 minutes ! When it became too dark to continue. It is alleged that some fans went home for tea then returned to see the end of the match. The 1990's saw the era of chairman Ken Richardson who police later described as " the type who would tackle a two year old for a 2p coin". Ring any bells with Luton fans prior to 2020 ? Despite a colourful past Doncaster will be formidable opponents on Saturday. A nervous afternoon for all concerned, COYH !.

I've seen us play Donny just six times from 1967 -2018. Our game at the Keepmoat in September, is the only time I've ever seen us lose to them (unluckily). Their fans post match in the supporters club said Luton were EASILY the best side Donny had faced this season.
To Date: P6 Luton wins 2, Draws 3, defeat one.
The first time I saw us play them in 1967, was a really memorable night for this 9 year old then.
Oct 25th, 1967 Div 4.
A Tuesday night when it absolutely lashed it down all night long. That didn't stop the biggest home crowd at that point, of 13,925 from attending.
The first half display from Town was absolutely MESMERISING, as we ruthlessly attacked from the kick off.
5 mins Ian Buxton RIP
6 mins Alan Slough
13 mins Ian Buxton again
17 mins Keith Allen
28 mins Watson for Donny
33 mins Bruce Rioch.
Half Time Luton 5 Doncaster 1 - the Luton players went up the tunnel to a rapturous standing ovation. It was without a doubt, THE best Hatters display I had seen in my near one year of watching Luton.
The fact that Donny scored twice to win the 2nd half making it a final score of Luton 5 Doncaster 3, ever so slightly tinged the evening for this young Hatter.
The win lifted us into the top 4 promotion places for the second time in 1967-68 - apart from the next game, when despite beating Workington 4-0 (we somehow went down to 5th!) - we were never out of a promotion place for the remainder of the season!
Ended 1967-68 as glorious Champions, with a record equalling (Peterborough) tally of 66 points (2 for a win then).
Any on here remember that night?
I'm quietly optimistic for tomorrow - Luton 2 Doncaster 1 is my wee wager.

I sure remember that season though - Champions! I was 11 and it was my first real season, going to a lot of games - and getting there from Harpenden required either my father or brother to come too. The next season I was allowed to go with school friends so hardly missed a home Saturday game. I am betting on the same scoreline as you. - Stacey to score again.

I was there Loyal saw every home game and quite a few away that season. I remember we used to start every home game fast to try and get early goals. Like some of games in the last couple of years we had the games won by half time so quite a lot of flat 2nd halves.

I remember that game, Loyal. I only went to night games in those days as I had a Saturday job.

Well, that was a bit special . . .
Man of the match? who cares, they all were. LuaLua got the sponsors, for me it was Pelly, literally never put a foot wrong, passes, tackles, effort, positioning all over the pitch and to cap it all, a cracking opening goal.
Enough said, 7 to go and it's all still in our own hands.

Lua Lua got it for me with the triple somersault ( probably called something else!)after scoring. But Pelly shut his critics up today with a great performance.

Our "blip" over the last four games have mostly been played in high winds and rain, so with the conditions today calm and dry it allowed us to play our passing game. I was impressed with the way we didn't give Donny anytime on the ball, closing them down and hunting in packs. Donny didn't know what hit them this afternoon they were totally outplayed.

Thank goodness the lads didn't have to travel all over the country this past week and it showed. An absolute pleasure to watch us playing superb football with every manjack playing a part. Pelly and Lualua starred but I'd be hard put to nominate MOTM with Stacey, Shinnie and Berry firing on all cylinders and sterling work from our defenders. Pity about Potts'injury as he started a game after a long gap - hope it's not too serious. With 7 to go, it's in our own hands now, but if we can maintain this kind of form I don't see any real problems in the run-in. I know we picked up Kaz because he was a free agent but I just wonder if he can be persuaded to extend his stay next season. It would be a terrific coup if we could.
I arrived at KR this afternoon lamenting Barnsley's 91st minute winner but my mood was lifted by a scintillating display. Up the Hatters!

A superb performance against 'the best team in the league'.
Lualua has become the first striker on the team sheet IMO. We are so much more dangerous with him in the side. As one texter to 3cr put it, he cannot be dropped. CANNOT be dropped. Tough call for Harford, but if he wants continuity, why not continue with that team? Best we've played for weeks.

Yes, what a tough call for MH, as you point out you just can't drop Lualua, they had no idea how to contain him and he's such a tough player to keep in check, Hylton had a decent game and bagged a goal, ironic if our top scorer who was on international duty gets dropped to the bench. With Hylton improving with each game i'd be tempted to keep the same two up front, but i doubt MH will, i don't think he can justify dropping Collins, unless he uses fatigue as a reason, but he had a day off yesterday so to speak, play all three? Just a suggestion.
