A Tweet from Danny Hylton today:
7 times over 3 seasons the panenka has graced football stadiums all over the country with great success, but tonight it is with great sadness that it has retired with immediate effect! All seriousness...glad it didn’t cost the team! 3 wins and a great week!
That's good, well done Danny!

Agree with observations posted so far. Have a real respect for AFC and their rise from the park - in the past, they have had some excellent players and played some good football. Sadly, they currently appear to be a club in something of a decline, and their harrying and hustling was not a pretty sight. Is the pitch there as small as it appears, as so many of our first half attempts to pass or mainly float balls forward went straight into touch? Our quality started to surface in the second half, principally driven by the excellent Shinnie. Two great finishes from Pelly and Lee although the latter had a very poor game by his standards. As for DH, a spectacularly well executed dive led to an equally spectacular penalty miss - was this guilt surfacing?? Credit to Rea and Bradley in particular too, their firm but fair interventions gave us a real solidity. Rea is proving an excellent captain in my book, quickly seeing the futility of arguing the unarguable with officials and moving on to more important things.

Thanks Bill, good share - and a great title If our success continues, the skies above KRoad will be full of vultures...

AFCW clearly had one tactic and that was to hit it long, high and unpretty from any blade of grass as soon as an opportunity allowed ... then wait for a mistake or half-mistake to try to capitalise upon. Fair dos if they had a front line that was dominating the our CBs but once it was clear that Matty Magic Hat Pearson and Bradley were more than equal to the demands it placed on them, I fully expected a team that has been in L1 for a couple of seasons to go to an alternative plan. But no, their manager's/coaching staff's response was to send on two more giants (including Pigott) and try more of the same but with tiring players.
Basically, they missed out their own midfield for virtually the whole game so those 'engine room' players had no influence on the game whatsoever.
If I was a Wombles fan, given the way AFCW played yesterday and their current run and form, I would be up in my attic dusting down out my copy of "Conference Grounds" - I seriously think that style of play would see them near the bottom of L2, let alone L1. A number of Luton fans didn't think a great deal to Oxford's or Brizzle Rovers' technical strengths but they did, at least, try to pass the ball about and move us around the park - not so with AFCW. They may well catch a few breaks and score some goals but they'll struggle more than they'll gain by playing that way.
I'd also be worried that their first team coach thought the first half was good! I thought it was a shockingly poor display from both teams but caused by their route one tactics and bustling/pressing. I don't recall Hitchin or St Albans playing that way in the PSFs so what they think they can achieve with that tactic in the third tier is beyond me.
As for the match, I was amazed that that, given the style he was up against, our most influential player was Shinniesta. Getting stuck in to tackles, competing for headers, tracking back and picking up seconds (usually off our CBs heads) before the AFCW players did ... it was a quite a revelation. More please!
Danny Hylton may be well versed at winding up the opposition but he is now winding me up as well! He certainly dropped a few notches on my respectometer yesterday for playing for Team Hylton instead of Luton Town. He may have tweeted that he won't try a chipped penalty again but why do it in the first place? I just hope Danny doesn't get to see any vintage footage of John Dreyer's one step, side footed penalties otherwise that style may be replicated at a stadium near you soon. Given the opposition and the fact that Jason Walker had already proved how costly this type of penalty can be against AFCW, their GKs must be told to "just stand up in the middle of the goal" when facing Luton penalties.
Three games and three wins since NJ's new assistant arrived. Three games and three wins since JJ replaced Potts at LB. Coincidence?
If Grant is fit for next week's game at Rochdale, would you have him in instead of Lee? There were a couple of times where Lee was running back after losing the ball (again!) and it looked like he was running in treacle - legs going 19-to-the-dozen but covering no ground! Rochdale have some decent players and tracking back will be more important than it was against Wimbledon ... for that reason I'd go for Grant (give his performances vs Walsall and Accy) over Lee, even if the latter did score to save Hylton's blushes.
COYH.

Cheers Bill good podcast. I like, "they lost at Barnsley but I think it was down to poor officiating". ☺

I hope Proud that JJ's last two performances justify his selection at LB even if Potts is deemed fit. However I recall the last time JJ substituted for an injured Potts, or was it Stacey, he was immediately dropped to the bench when the other was fit.
It was once said that JJ was possibly a better defender than either Potts and certainly Stacey but not in going forward. Not now, equal to Stacey and better than Potts when attacking in my view.

Proud spot on about the arrival of Steve Rutter, he's very experienced and I don't think there's much doubt that some of our players have benefited from his coaching. Notably Shinnie and Rea.

It was interesting yesterday that JJ was entrusted with a great number of dead ball kicks; maybe another influence of the new Asst Manager.

Interesting point Steve, both were superb yesterday with Shinnie playing like I have never seen him play; a complete midfield player.
