Away to the "U's" tonight, who have not had the best starts to their season. Seen today that Ian Wright has been giving Oxfords forwards some advice on scoring goals. Let's hope his advice takes a couple of games to sink in! First away win of the season? Would be handy. COYH!!

Not going tonight. Midweek away games are now difficult with my new job............and like Cambridge, Stevenage and Wycombe - other 'nearby' clubs - I'm not too keen on returning to any of them again unless it's an FA Cup Quarter Final possibly?
I see we've sold over 1,100 tickets and it's also now pay at the gate.
Going to Barnsley though.

I've paid my tenner to iFollow for tonight so looking forward to trying it out...

I am watching on iFollow tonight: did come close to driving over to Oxford but a horrible drive from my place on a Tuesday night; in fact, it's pretty awful on a Saturday.

I don't much like watching footy on TV and no public transport from here to Oxford so I'm relying on you guys for commentary on the game.

Shockingly poor opposition which we thankfully took advantage of. Yet again Shinnie managed to perform extremely poorly in an away game and putting two corners straight out of play in quick succession took some doing. Potts was back to his best defensively, Collins and Pelly played really well, and Shea was scarily indecisive. As Wimbo has said we are starting to look a consistently good side.

The story of the dominant away performances continues with the exception of the Peterborough mad half hour:
Masses of possession
Missed chances & yet more missed chances
Pelly strong and running midfield yet not pulling the trigger as well as he should.
Cornick: I don’t know, if he starts hitting the target when presented with a chance he will be great; if not then maybe just an impact sub.
Shinnie away from home: I am not totally sure he cuts it away from home. Some parts of his play were ok and he is indeed a talented footballer. Yet a couple of those corners were terrible and his tracking back results in too many free kicks for my liking yet credit to him as he never hides.
Our strange goalkeeping glitches; last nights was a totally daft pass out by Shea to a Luton man, Rea I think, who had two opponents in close attention; not the deepest thinker our James Shea.
We have a few things not quite right but what is so pleasing we have many more things very right indeed so as the injured players make there way back we may possibly turn that domination into an extra goal or two and victories. Our defence looked well in control with Bradley again so impressive which is more than you can say for his ex-Plymouth fellow player Nelson; just what has happened to that once highly rated young Plymouth captain who now looks indecisive and weighty? With our defending we say some great tackles by Pearson, Potts, Pelly tracking back and the wise head of Bradley.
I was really pleased for Collins in getting his second goal of the season via that very inventive assist from one-yard out from Cornick. My view remains that we are definitely on the right development road as a team/club and apart from the missed chances, we are a good team to watch.

Despite Cornick appearing to get a fair dollop of criticism, I hope that he isn't simply swapped in and out of the team on his shortcomings in one particular game, otherwise he'll never develop the skillset to overcome his weaknesses ... plus the fact that he scares the bejeebers out of many opponents. Playing 10-15 minutes cameos from the bench will not allow him to flourish IMO. Shinnie was pretty woeful from start to substitution but, knowing exactly what you get with him, I was quite surprised to see him starting away from KR. Forget the errant crosses, misplaced passes and poor set piece deliveries, it was his positional play when out of possession (the team, not Shinnie, himself): several times he got on the wrong side of Oxford players in deep(ish) midfield positions and their players simply rolled around him and had immediate access to our back line and shooting opportunities. Tackling isn't his forte! Just being a strong, determined lump running alongside a similarly built opposition player isn't his forte either! He can be brilliant but he needs time and space to show it - you simply don't get that unless the opposition are chasing the game and leaving themselves open. Impact sub? NJ went ape5h1t with Shea from the sidelines after his rolling the ball out to Rae - interesting that immediately afterwards, Rae signalled to Shea that it was on him and not the GK. That noted, Shea should have been a lot more observant and not just rolled the ball to Rae when he was clearly going to receive it under immense pressure. Elliot Lee's role with Cornick in the starting eleven was a bit blurred - he looked like he didn't quite know where to play. Looked like he knew his responsibilities WRT tracking back but was betwix and between midfield and front line when going forward ... and we all know he likes to shoot on sight so (positionally) playing the role of a 'link man' between those the midfield and attacking departments didn't look to be second nature to him. Guess it's time for Pelly to get some new boots - he must be one of the most influential midfielders in this division because of his strength and willingness to run at people with the ball BUT his (and Cornick's) career progression will depend upon being able to hit the bloody target after all his hard work to get into a position where chances will fall. Time for our new assistant manager to either re-coach him or to apply electro-shock therapy tabs to his parts and zap him whenever he blazes over/wide ... that noted, some people I know pay for that privilege Oh and it's almost as though I drove the DeLorean to Oxford last night Close but last night was no cigar compared to the original. On another thought regarding encounters with Oxford United; remember the Conference days when we played at Oxford and their attendance that night was over 10,000; last night in L1 only an attendance in the mid 6,000’s. Which is better to have, a side at the top of the National League or a side at the wrong end of L1?
Also, what a difference 18 months makes. We lost by 2-3 at home in the semi-final of the EFL Trophy to a well drilled Michael Appleton side with us in L2 and OUFC in L1. At the time we talked of the highly regarded Appleton and the gap between the quality of Oxford and Luton. Well, Appleton moved on, managers came and went and Oxford have declined from a very decent looking L1 side to a team in the image of Karl Robinson. If you have a good manager, do all you can reasonably do to keep him!

Have missed the last two home games through illness and despite buying a ticket and booking accommodation,I was still unfit to travel so paid my tenner last night and watched ifollow.
Oxford fans have my sympathy if they are 'treated' to displays like last night's on a regular basis. For me, entertainment value was about 2 out of 10 and as to footballing skills, there was just one moment of magic as Sheehan delivered an inch-perfect cross with that wonderful left foot for Potts to head the winner. BTW, Simon seemed nonplussed that Potts's previous 'goal' was ruled out - did Collins do something naughty or what? Does anyone know?
Our only industrious and effective member of the engine-room staff, Pelly, must recalibrate his shooting boots but please, Luke Berry, hurry up back. We need you!
Lee beavers away at manoeuvring shooting opportunities but by the time the ball is eventually released, defenders have gathered to block his efforts. A judicious pass to a better placed colleague might be more fruitful.
Apart from Shea, whose uncertainty at times and wayward long kicking must unsettle others, NJ is right that defensively we are tighter. But the fact remains that yet again we conceded first, allowing Ricky Holmes space to weave his way through and give our strikers a demonstration of shooting on target into the corner of the goal, well out of Shea's reach.
When fully match fit, I feel that Lualua will be a useful acquisition and we did win, albeit making hard work of it against 10 men late on. But I still feel we're lightweight in MF - Pelly can't do it all! And are we really waiting for Hylton's re-emergence before we can reliably capitalise on the many chances created - but spurned?
I can't honestly say I enjoyed watching that display but I was relieved that we collected our first away win this season.
