Town take on high flying Spurs tomorrow at Kenilworth Road. Ange.Postecoglou's team are unbeaten and sit 2nd in the league behind Man City. Ross Barkley is available after missing a few games and I've just noticed that Andros Townsend has been training with us all week. ( he won't be in the team tomorrow though) RE quipped we'll be playing a flat nine with Carlton up front! Good one Robbie. COYH! The cockerels lost his head! Spurs Trivia. In 1949 Spurs manager Arthur Rowe developed a play known as "push and run" or the wall pass. Where a player layed the ball off to a team mate then ran past his tackler to collect the return pass. "Simples" you may say, but a move employed every day in football at all levels now.

Ah Spurs, some great history with this one and memories of the really greats. All time Luton vs Spurs First game: 1894 draw 2 - 2 FA Cup Last game: 1992 draw 0 - 0 Division 1 Games won: 22 Games lost: 33 Games drawn: 25 Largest win: 1897, 5 - 0, United League, Attendance unknown Largest loss: 1956, 5 - 0, Division 1, Attendance 58,960 information 11v11.comSpurs were the first team of the twentieth century to win the double of Division 1 and the FA Cup and brought football to a new level of skill and excitement. It was said that Danny Blanchflower instigated training with the ball, in previous years, rather than for pure fitness levels, the thought being at the time that starve them of the ball in training would make them desperate to get it in a game. Come on you 'oldies' put names to the faces below:

Was lucky enough have seen this team play in 1963 against the Gunners at White Hart Lane. Bill Nicholson was their manager a Spurs legend.

Don't forget Captain Ron's Granddad Steve. In a couple of years tragically John White was going to be killed during a thunder/lightning storm, a truly great Tottenham legend.

An interesting fact from that team is that Bill Nicholson "dispensed" with the services of Bobby Smith in a later season due to "disciplinary" reasons and refused to re instate him even when the likes of Jimmy Greaves pleaded for him to stay. he joined Brighton who were in the 4th. Division. At the the time he was in the England squad and played a match for England as a 4th. Div. player.

I have a Cliff Jones story. After the playing for Wales v (I think) Brazil he was described in the press as the “best winger in the world”. He told his teammates this and decided to ask Bill Nicholson for a pay rise …

… encouraged by his teammates he went to the office and knocked on the door “come in” said Bill. After the meeting he went back to his teammates. “How did it go Cliff? …

“Well I knocked on the door and went in, I asked Bill for a pay rise because the press think I’m the best winger in the world.” Bill said “Do they, I don’t now **** off” So I left.”
