As the saying goes " A weeks a long time in Politics" ditto in Football? Anyway season 22/23 Part One ends with a visit from the Millers tomorrow afternoon. Would be great for a rip roaring win from the Town under Big Mick. Big support for him and the team guaranteed one hopes. COYH!! Rotherham Trivia In 1955 the Millers recorded their highest ever finish in the football league when they came third on points but missed promotion on goal difference to Division One. Third behind Champions Birmingham and Runners Up ..........Luton Town.

How to upset a Sheffield Wednesday or United fan: "Is Sheffield near Rotherham?" And good wishes to Nathan and every success!

What a week! The King is Dead, Long Live the King. Thank you Nathan Jones (twice) no matter what is written it terms of criticism (including from myself), he took Luton Town FC to great heights. From 18th/24 in the 4th tier League Two after his first game in charge v Cambridge Utd in Jan 2016 - to 9th in the 2nd tier Championship after his 303rd & final game in charge of us vs Stoke, improving our league placing every full season he led us -culminating in a Play Off Semi Final place to the Premier League!
10 years ago this week we lost 2-0 at home to DARTFORD in the Conference, which just shows how far our beloved club have risen. The next appointment by 2020 is crucial so that we can continue that rise.
But not one person is bigger than the club and we move on.
Luton vs Rotherham
Today before our mini break, will be my 1,944th Luton game attending and 1,264th at Kenilworth Road. I will either see my 835th Hatters victory, 508th draw or 603rd defeat.
It will be the 9th time I've seen the Millers at our shrine since 1968 and I've yet to see a draw in those clashes. 5 Town wins and three defeats.
To any of those interested, here are those 8 Luton/Rotherham clashes to date:
1968-69 Div 3, Luton 3 (Bruce Rioch 2, Brian Lewis RIP) RUFC 1 - Att: 14,163
1969-70 Div 3, Luton 2 (Keith Allen, Alan Slough RIP) RUFC 1 - Att: 14,315
1981-82 Div 2, Luton 3 (Steve White, Mal Donaghy, Brian Stein) RUFC 1 - Att: 11,061
1983-84 League Cup 2 Second leg, Luton 0 RUFC 2 AET, Millers won 4-3 on agg - Att: 6,755
1996-97 Div 2 (old Div 3), Luton 1 (Mitchell Thomas) RUFC 0 - Att: 4,547
2000-01 Div 2 (old 3) Luton 0 RUFC 1 - Att: 4,854
2008-09 League Two (old Div 4), Luton 2 (Chris Martin, Asa Hall) RUFC 4 - Att: 5,975
2009-10 FA Cup 2 Replay, Luton 3 (Adam Newton, Alan White, Claude Gnakpa) RUFC 0 - Att: 2,518

No trains means a no show from me so cheer Mick and the team on my behalf -would be great to post a win for all the obvious reasons. A period of change ahead for our club but I'm confident GS and co will do their their very best to maintain our success after their excellent navigation of all things NJ. Personally I hope they don't resort to poaching another side's manager. COYH!

Why does virtually, no every, team I've watched in the Championship pass the ball and retain the ball better than us?
On the positive side it was nice to see a team playing in black and white looking good and we really deserved no more than a point.
Pelly was the sponsors Man of the Match but to be fair you could have picked any number out of a hat, none excelled. And perhaps someone can tell me what Dougthy brings to the table. On today's evidence he can't defend and can't pass and can't attack.
Don't know what I'm looking forward to most, the World Cup being over or the resumption of the Championship.

With a little more of a cool head ast the players we could have easily taken all three points yesterday: some “nearly” thorough passes just a tad overhit, that great shot from Campbell when Morris was in the clear to his right & that ballerina defending when we conceded the early goal.
I can’t say that anybody had a bad game or an outstanding game but having said that, I thought Bell did a good job on the left. One of the problems we have with the current style of play is that as Lizard highlights, some other Championship sides set up to dominate so much of the midfield. Rotherham are no mugs and so nearly won at Burnley and earlier this week won away to Sheffield Utd. Rotherham work very hard and particularly in the second half played some lovely triangles in midfield where they appeared to have an extra man or two.
Three points for Big Mick would have been nice but overall I was happy to hear the final whistle and settle for a point which gives the new manager the task of securing maybe 20 points from the remaining 25 games. As long as it's not a Gary Brabin, Paul Buckle or Graeme Jones type we should be ok but as we know, it’s something of a lottery finding the next manager and far from an exact science. Our success rate with the last five gentlemen taking the hot seat has been 40% or 50% if you fudge the figures and count Nathan twice. So, fingers crossed we make a good appointment.

Just adding another note to the replacing Nathan theme, I really can’t see the club considering Rob Edwards when you consider the way he departed FGR for Watford. That departure made NJ’s courtship with Stoke City look like a thing of gentle blossoming romance rather than the “I have got a new job mate & won’t be back” departure note from Rob Edwards to the FGR owner. I just think the bookies' odds and news speculation are just that, pure shot-in-the-dark speculation.
Personally, I hope the new man is somebody we have heard very little about and not one of the usual names trundled out e.g. ex-player Stephen Robinson who has an incredibly mediocre management performance (about 25% win rates at the mighty Oldham & Morecambe) gets mentioned from the pre-appointment days of Paul Buckle onwards every time we have a manager vacancy.

Just about a fair result I thought. I think we actually need this break, as the performances of late have turned a wee bit flat. Yesterday was a classic case of not bad play leading up, but poor Luton final balls. Although it has to be written, their keeper made two excellent saves. One in particular 1st half from Allan Campbell. Rotherham played well in front our highest home league crowd of the season. Like so many away teams at KR, who seem to have pace in midfield/attack in abundance. Agree with Liz, I found it difficult to find a Luton MOTM, but if had to choose- possibly Alfie Doughty. I shouted hello to Shatter and Wimbo at HT as I passed, but they either ignored me or were so deep in conversation that they didn't hear myself. As for our new manager, there is all sorts of social media talk naturally. My no one choice would be Plymouth Manager, the Scouser 'Schumacker' . Not Robinson for me thanks, he's done an ok job in Scotland as manager at Motherwell & St Mirren, but nothing to shout about in England. I still have this inkling (not choice) it might be Ainsworth?

Sorry LL, did not see you at HT; a few of us were in deep tactical conversation trying to plan the rescue of the match.

I was surprised Pelly was named MoM though I thought he was solid in the second half. These MoM awards he's getting should boost his confidence. As to the new manager --Gary Sweet on the radio after the game was interesting. They've been tracking managers (and, presumably, coaches) for some time using the same data driven approach they use to identify players. I have every faith in the Board that they will bring in the right person for us (notice I don't say "man"!)
