The new meaning of WBA Wind Back Again! 🌬️ Tomorrow The Baggies come to Kenilworth Road just one point more than us and we have a game in hand. They are struggling to score and have enlisted Andy Carroll to help out, but he's failed in his two games for them so far, let's hope that stat remains the same. Hopefully no structural damage to the Kenny and that the winds abate. COYH! WBA Trivia. Their nickname "The Throstles" is apparently a word Shakespeare used for the song thrush. One can be seen on their shirt badge below.

Not trivia but what immediately sprang to my mind with WBA. Back in the day they had a player named David Burnside who was renowned for his ball control abilities and when not picked for the matchday 11 sometimes entertained the crowd before the game or at half time. He was at West Brom from 1957 until 1962 so some on here would have seen him. Roger Wash reminded me that Luton tried to sign him. A couple of paragraphs from wiki below: His potential was quickly spotted by First Division West Bromwich Albion to whom he moved in December 1955, signing professional papers in February 1957. He soon acquired nationwide fame for his incredible ball-juggling abilities when, in October 1957, during the half-time in a televised friendly match against Russian team CDSA Moscow he performed his tricks to entertain the crowd. In 1960, he entered a heading competition organised by the Sunday Dispatch newspaper. He managed 495 clean headers without a break and although this was far from a record it amply demonstrated his ball skills.[4]
During his time at The Hawthorns, West Bromwich were relatively successful, generally ending the season in the upper half of the First Division table, including reaching fourth spot in 1959–60. Burnside made 135 appearances for West Bromwich and represented England at Youth level as well as winning two under-23 caps.

Of course the most famous Baggie was probably Jeff Astle RIP king of the Albion to Throstles fans of my era. WBA Legend Tony 'Bomber' Brown was closely behind him.
We signed ex England International centre forward Derek Kevan RIP from West Brom for a short period in my first season supporting Luton Town 1966-67. He was obviously past his prime dropping down to us in the 4th tier Div 4 when we were near the foot of the table (2nd bottom) in November 1966.
Derek only made 12 apps for us but scored a healthy 6 goals. I saw him score one of those in a 2-0 Boxing Day win in the fog v Tranmere. He was then part of the transfer deal in March 1967, that brought us the brilliant Keith Allen from Stockport, with DK moving to the other Hatters.

If tomorrow's match survives the weather conditions and goes ahead, it will be my 1,913th Luton match attending and the 1,243rd at Kenilworth Road. My heart says I will see my 824th Town victory, head says the 497th draw - but hopefully not my 594th Hatters defeat!
I have seen the Baggies 11 times at the shrine from 1975 -2019. To date, it's 4 Luton wins, four draws and 3 defeats. If anyone is interested here are those clashes:

Two pearls of wisdom, Andy Carroll is way past his sell by date and Pelly deservedly Man of the Match. A spirited display after an abomination of a display the previous game and we were easily the best side. Nice to see Cameron get his first league goal, a great header and good to see Campbell's contribution increasing by the game and having the confidence to take on a shot, and what a goal.
Funny Division this Championship, fun though.
PS: Not sure about the new keeper and doesn't look like an improvement on Shea, poor kicking and a couple of errors that could have been fatal.

What a strange refereeing performance today. Pedantic and fussy over where throw ins were taken but you could take free kicks anywhere and handball it when you liked unless preventing a throw in, Booked Campbell for his first foul but let Carroll off completely for a terrible late tackle. Also appeared to give us nothing especially 2nd half.

I seem to recall Simon Slugas first couple of games were similar to Steers performance Liz, apart from his obvious Cock ups I thought his distribution was quite good, and when he could he played it out quite speedily.

He has history with us too. I remember him being absolutely awful in our opening day 2018-19 8-2 win v Yeovil. Yesterday, after a good opening 10 mins, we then seemed to ease back in the first half and gifted them a glorious opportunity when they hit the bar as it looked easier to score. Countering that, I thought Jerome had scored, only for it to agonisingly hit the post. 2nd half was a different matter. We controlled the game, two fabulous well taken goals. Albion were woeful. A team that were in the Premiership last season, getting ÂŁ45m parachute payments this (& looking highly likely now for another ÂŁ30m pp next season) are now mid table and haven't even SCORED for 5 games.

Also, credit where credit is due as I'm not his greatest fan (at this level) , Pelly had his best game of the season I've seen IMHO. Other stand outs were obviously my MOTM Campbell, Jerome and as per - Naismith.
Good to see Iron Man opposite me in LTFC Mick's Box, celebrating wildly waving his crutches in the air frantically when wee Campbell scored aka Bobby Charlton style.

Love the Bobby Charlton reference! Yes, it was another marvellous performance from everyone. Thought Muswe was our only player not quite at his best and he was rightly subbed leter on. Think he's got lots of promise though and I hope NJ keeps giving him game time. Too early to be sure about Steer - gaffe's aside, he punched and threw the ball well. Kicking may have been weaker because of the wind. A very good save with his feet. We're at our best going forward, whether ahead or behind in a game, and it was great to see such determination and skill in that regard from the likes of Bell, Adebayo, Jerome, Campbell and Pelly in particular.
Well done all - again.
8th in the Championship. Enjoy.

I am surprised that Osho has not been mentioned, I thought he played well especially as early on Naismith and Lockyer were shakey. However both recovered to play well. Time will tell if Steer is the answer, but after his early gaffe he recovered well and dealt with crosses and corners well when under considerable pressure. One good save with his feet and a terrific one handed save from nearly point blank range in the first half. All in all I think he can be pleased with his league debut for us.
